Earlier this week we broke that MINI had issues a sales stop of all Cooper models built from December 2013 to December 2014. We’ve now heard from several sources that the issue was nothing more than mis-labeled cargo weight capacity stickers.
Apparently the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is incorrect on both the VIN label and the cargo weight capacity tire label. Since the values on the labels is federally regulated by the NHTSA, MINI is required to notify the NHTSA that they are going to change the labels. And of course they’re legally obligated to since they do not comply with federal regulations.
File this under #facepalm

Sounds like the same issue that held our R60 at the port in Gras for 2 weeks in Dec 2010. We were expecting delivery by Christmas but didn’t get it until the second week of Jan.

Do the TSA just not want the mini to succeed in the US?

and the stickers are erred on the side of safety. seems stupid to hold up deliveries.
