Frank Stephenson

The original “new” MINI Cooper was designed over 20 years ago by Frank Stephenson, one of the most revered automotive designers of the last 50 years. But beyond that Frank has also been behind a handful of other iconic cars; the original BMW X5, new Fiat 500, Maserati MC12 and the Ferrari 430 to name just a few. He also oversaw the entire McLaren design language and the current range of cars up to the 720. Suffice to say Frank has experienced just about every aspect aspect of automotive design. Yet his first video in the new series “How I Designed” is dedicated to perhaps his most iconic design – the R50 MINI Cooper.

We’ll let Frank take if from here. And if you want to read more about the origins of the modern MINI, read our full report on the secret MINI concepts coming Monday.
