MINI Creates Limited Edition Set Commemorating MINI vs Porsche Race (w/Poll)

MINI USA is continuing to hype the attempted match-up with Porsche on June 21st at Road Atlanta. The latest effort is the idea of creating a limited edition set to commemorate the race. We’re told that MINI has yet to decide if they will have the collectors set and bringing them to market would likely depend on the race actually happening. But suffice to say the handful of pre-production sets already produced will be highly sought after if no more are made.

What do you think? Regardless of whether or not the race is run, would you be interested the set you see above?

Oh, and they need to fix the packaging to reflect the correct performance levels of both vehicles. MINI Cooper S Hardtop vs. 911 (whatever) just to make it correct.

It looks as though the wheels on the card are Web Spokes and the wheels on the model are S Winders.

I’d love to have a set of these. All of my other matchbook sized models are of the R53.

Just saw one of the Audi commercials referring to BMW as the “loser” in the sport sedan market. I wonder if the MINI vs. Porsche ad campaign is some kind of subtle passive/aggressive way of BMW getting back at the Porsche/Audi group.

Clever promotion. Humor similar to “Cooper and Hutch” or whatever that was called back in ’07.

The funny thing is that there are ignorant types out there who won’t realize it’s a gag and will acually be impressed that Minis are “that” fast.
