MINI has released body colored shift knobs. They’re knobs, they’re painted, they match your car. They list for $90 and are available at your local MINI dealer. There’s also a matte silver available now for all those with really dirty silver cars.

They do. The bottom section is wood and the top section is chrome. It's available through any MINI dealer's parts department. It's actually quite nice in person.

In MINIs 2003 accessories catalog I saw a full spherical shifter (no squashed dixie cup on top) that was the color of the car. It looked great and I wanted it sooo bad. :(

Is there a coloured steering wheel option too? My car is pure silver with silver/black.anthracite interior. I made a mistake by not getting some touches of red inside.

I've come across the all silver/black shifter knob before – I think it's been available for quite a while. It was in the accessories brochure somewhere, called the “matte chrome” shift knob, for $90. I think it was what was originally on the MC40s, that didn't originally come installed and had to be sent later. It looks great in person, and loved the fact the the shift pattern is on black instead of white, but $90 is steep.

It is available in INDI Blue. I was worried when I heard about these as well that they wouldnt be made in colors no longer offered on the cars. But Mike at Sterling MINI said it is available and I am waiting for mine to come in.

Now if they'd just come out with one that doesn't have chromed metal, so it isn't so dang cold (or hot) to the touch when you first get in the car.

I believe all '05 MINIs have a new knob that is chromed plastic and not chromed metal for just such reasons. Personally I prefer the way metal feels despite the hot and cold.

I've had the silver one for more than a year now and I love it! It feels smaller than the stock one but I would have really like it to be a little heavier, helping the gear change… but I can't complain about it since the finish is awesome and it really mathc my interior wonderfully!

MINI really put hard effort into aftermarket parts!

Gabe, I totally agree with you..I love the tactile feeling of the metal. I think I had one of the chromed plastic knobs in a MC40 I had as a loaner recently. Felt kind of cheap. I guess we can thank all the cold shift knob whiners for influencing BMW on this.

i think they should offer the body-colored dash in jet black, that would look soo sweeet and badass.i drove to miami florida last summer, and it was like 110 degrees outside. when i put my hand on the shift knob it left a round mark on my hand. it was pretty painful, but cool. it would have been awesome if it left the R-1-2-3-4-5-6 on my hand though 🙁 i wouldve gotten that tattooed

How can I lower the shifter on my MCS? Do I have to take it off the car and cut and weld it together again.I would like to cut it 2-3 inches. Any thoughts

Momo makes a black leather shift knob that looks and feels great. I just got one from outmotoring.com. Does the original knob just twist off? It's on very tight.

HI, I THOUGHT THE GEAR KNOB JUST SCREWED OFF BUT APPARENTLY THIS IS NOT SO.CAN YOU PLEASE HELP.I DONT WANT TO RISK DAMAGING ANYTHING UNTIL I KNOW HOW TO GET IT OFF.THANKS,STEVE.

Before anyone asks… they're manual only at this point.

Just my opinion, but anything other than black or silver on MINI's shiftknob is very….awkward looking

I would love it if Mini would sell a wood knob.

They do. The bottom section is wood and the top section is chrome. It's available through any MINI dealer's parts department. It's actually quite nice in person.

Looks kinda weird, but cool anyway, how they do all kind of accesories to make your car look different!

WHAT IS'NT 100$ WITH MINI
DOES IT COME IN BRG?

This will match my chrome interior with painted dash as the knob is painted and part chrome too. COOOOOL!!

Is it available only in the current MINI colors offered? Can you still get Indi Blue?)

Looks neat. But, I won't replace my Whalen. As Grumpy put it–I don't like squashed dixie cups either.

Hey Gabe,

Is there a coloured steering wheel option too? My car is pure silver with silver/black.anthracite interior. I made a mistake by not getting some touches of red inside.

Yes Jen!

Haha…my mini has cosmo black color, the original black knob just fit!

Now if they'd just come out with one that doesn't have chromed metal, so it isn't so dang cold (or hot) to the touch when you first get in the car.

$90 seems like a lot to me …

I store a black sock in the armrest which I use as a knob cover on hot days.

Hmmm… sock cover… “cool” idea!

I've had the silver one for more than a year now and I love it! It feels smaller than the stock one but I would have really like it to be a little heavier, helping the gear change… but I can't complain about it since the finish is awesome and it really mathc my interior wonderfully!

$90 for a knob? Please!

However, I think it would look good if combined with the body-color dash… which I don't have, since I don't have an S. =/

Could someone please explain to me how the stock knob looks like a “skwashed dixie cup”?

Many of the “short shift” kits available lower the shift knob height as well.
MF sponsor OutMotoring offers Alta and B&M, for example.
