Beyond the press release and the images, MINI has also released four minute video of both the Cooper and Cooper S doing their thing on some curvy roads. Since our servers shudder at the thought of hosting video these days, we’ll just link to the version up over at YouTube courtesy of our friends at Leftlanenews.com.
It was great to see the undisguised R56 riding the road, but the video was kinda boring. They really didn’t seem to showcase the cars’ abilities as some of the “unauthorized” videos of the previous months.
Hey, it didn’t burst into flames! Excellent, that puts me at ease. Frankly, I just don’t get videos of cars driving. I just don’t know what I’m looking at. They all seem to show a car doing what a car does.
Not bad, but it would look better in Hyper Blue. I must say, I like the European roads as much as I like the cars in this video. No MINI-sized potholes.
I really found myself missing the supercharger jet-engine whine that I’ve grown to love so much in my ’04 MCS.
I’m pretty happy with the new cars overall, but with the new MCS, that unique engine note is now lost. I’m sure the aftermarket will fill the void with a myriad of larger turbos, CAI’s, blow-off valves, etc.
>MINItron – but I love then new gas gauge. That is just a cool addition.
IMHO the gas gauge is another poor idea that Mini has incorporated. Needle gauges are more classy and sports car like. The rest is just Idiot lights! Also notice no Engine Temp gauge. Has Mini gone cheap and opted for Idiot lights? Usually when the light comes on it’s too late.
Another reason I won’t be trading/selling my 04 Mini for the new model. I feel Mini (BMW) blew a good thing.
On another note, did anyone notice the knob on the door frame round thing, just below the door opening handle?
Is that going to be the outside mirror adjusting control knob? If it is, try fiddling with that thing.
What’s up with those huge Air vents that stick way out?
I can appreciate and understand improvements and change but the entire interior is just horrible. IMO.
I have to say that the one thing I noticed that I really liked was the new fuel gauge visible at 43 seconds into the video. Definitely new and different!
This car reminds me of some of the designs that followed the original 911. Allot were very weak and some sparkling. This, to me is a weak version of a really stellar original design, not the mechanical stuff that all seems pretty nice. To me it’s lost that aggressive look to a more middle of the road vanilla pudd’n look.
A design director told me once, when I had to deal with a clients reconditioning of an old tired product… ” Slap some bold new graphics on it.”
Pieces I like but there’s just too much I don’t. Maybe when my ’04 MCS is past it’s prime something I like better will show up. I’m hoping the next R-whatevers are better.
ALSO: I don’t understand the people who have a problem with the hood scoop? Cars forever have had useless things like that on them. It’s kool looking to me as the MC is even weaker looking without it.
The hood has lost the sexy curvyness. I have had women spontaneously walk up and run their hands over the fender and down the curve of the hood of my Cooper with licentious intent. I don’t think the new, mellowed-out shape will do that.
i hear more wind than turbo 🙁
oh and the new cooper (non S) is looking real nice… the othore “masculine” brother really lost something in this evolution process.
I LOVE IT!!!!! There will surely be new intakes available shortly after introduction to get more of the turbo whine out of the engine bay.
I love the new front grilles, especially the chrome surrounded black one on the S.
I love the new rear bumper on the S. If I end up buying an S in ’08 I will most definately have to get the rear fogs.
I hadn’t notice it before, but I love then new gas gauge. That is just a cool addition.
I cannot wait to see one in person. I cannot wait to drive one. It is going to be a LONG wait until March ’08(when the lease is up on the Nissan).

The S is just not the same to me without the “whine”….I may have watched too much Italian Job for my own good.
hmmmm… looks like the cooper made the jump better than the s – as far as exterior goes….
The new MC is so much more old school and pure looking than the MCS … whew!
i like the cars in the video more than the pictures…more angles i guess
The car looks good but without the supercharger it sounds like a VW (not that there is anything wrong with that.)
I think if the video becomes popular you will need to design a “Beware of Bull” grill badge 🙂

Yawn. Nice scenery, though.

The video link is broken. I guess we were flooding the hosting server and they took it down. rats.
Good thing I watched it last night, even with my wife telling me to go to bed and saying “It’ll be up there tomorrow!!”
I love being right every once in a while. 😉
It’s still online.

It was pulled this morning for a short while. I’m glad they put it back!!

Man, I must not be hanging out in the right parking lots….
