First up, some general shots of the surrounding area, the MINI display and the models on hand:
Next, the full MINI Press Conference with Dr. Michael Ganal, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing:
Finally here’s another look at the new MINIs on display along with a good dose of crowd frenzy:
Whats with all the attention surrounding the MINI conv.? Last time i heard the new MINI’s were rolling out, i don’t know about you :p
And where were all the models that we were promised??
The burning question for me since my R56 MCS is currently in production is: What seats are we getting???? I think that’s the only variable.
Also another thought… Since the new mini was already unveiled, I am guessing there is much less fanfare this time around. It seems to me that it makes more sense to just have a simultaneous worldwide launch of the car to keep the excitement level high. It seems like nobody really cares that the R56 is at the Detroit show….I just NEED to drive one NOW!!!
The Convert was the new “sidewalk edition”
I agree about the seats.. I want to see some good pics of the US spec seats.
is it me or is the sidewalk just….just…awful?
It’s just you. 😉
Looks like nobody was really excited except that mom.
Whats the price of the sidewalk?
No Matt, it’s me too.
Hey camera man. Thanks for all the great shots of the R56.
I saw somewhere that the “sidewalk” option is about $4,000. This includes brown leather interior, different wheels, doorsills, two-tone leather steering wheel, armrest, chrome line interior and lots of other stuff. Available in 4 colors only on the convertible.
Finally english leather is avl. for the convertible…about time.
Thanks Don.
I was there and, yeah, it was a bit surprising how much attention the Sidewalk attracted relative to the R56s. I really don’t get it unless most of the journalists didn’t realize that it was the “old” MINI.

Oh, and the other strange thing about the frenzy was that all of the cars were out there on the floor in full view, uncovered, on the day before–the first press preview day.
