The new MINI convertible due early next spring (code-named R57) will feature a several new exterior and top color options. As we’ve previously mentioned, the R57 convertible will get two new colors to call its own; one metallic and one a non-metallic. The non-metallic addition to the line-up will be called Interchange Yellow.
It’s a non-metallic yellow/green that’s almost the same color as a hi-liter pen but not quite so luminous. Also something to note, it’s the same color that will be used on the upcoming electric MINI’s mirror caps and roof.
Along with this new yellow, the R57 will also mark the return of Space Blue as an exclusive color for the convertible.
But the big news today is that the R57 will also get a couple new top options as well. Along with the normal black color, MINI will offer a dark brown roof color. Finally MINI will debut the Denim Blue as another top choice that is said to be made of material that actually appears to have metallic glittering flakes in it.
Time-frame
As previously reported the R57 will go on-sale in Spring of 2009. We’ve heard an exact time-line of March but that could always slip a week or two. Expect the launch to happen worldwide with the Cooper, Cooper S and JCW models with a diesel Cooper to eventually follow.
Am I having déjà vu?
^ no — I think the only update is the debut of Denim Blue
I assume that the mention of “a diesel Cooper to eventually follow” isn’t meant to suggest that we’ll be seeing the diesel in the U.S?
………and COOL BLUE replaces the previously mentioned SPACE BLUE. Either way, both colors are beautiful!
>I assume that the mention of “a diesel Cooper to eventually follow†isn’t meant to suggest that we’ll be seeing the diesel in the U.S?
Most likely this will not be the diesel MINI we see in the US market.
>………and COOL BLUE replaces the previously mentioned SPACE BLUE. Either way, both colors are beautiful!
That’s a typo and has been changed. Our information is consistently said the new blue will be Space Blue.
Yikes…I’m not sure I’m ready for a soft top w/ sparklies!!!
Sorry to disagree with Gabe but I’ve heard from a very reliable source that:
– The new yellow is going to be metallic.
– There will be the option of a brown hood and a brown leather interior but no Hot Chocolate exterior colour.
– The convertible will launch with just the Cooper and Cooper S. The One and JCW will follow later. There are no plans for a Cooper D as they can’t get enough engines.
Also to confirm things I think Gabe has already mentioned:
– The roll bars will be pop up ones.
– The rear window will be slightly bigger.
– Launch should be end of March in Europe.
The 2009 Convertible/Cooper/CooperS aren’t releasing in Europe until March? What about the United States? What about color choices for the Cooper/Cooper S, has anyone heard anything there?
>Sorry to disagree with Gabe but I’ve heard from a very reliable source that: The new yellow is going to be metallic.
The source that gave me the color information has seen the color in person and they claim that it is non-metallic.
>There will be the option of a brown hood and a brown leather interior but no Hot Chocolate exterior colour.
Right this is correct – not sure how HC got in there as an exterior color.
>The convertible will launch with just the Cooper and Cooper S. The One and JCW will follow later. There are no plans for a Cooper D as they can’t get enough engines.
If this is the case it has changed very recently

Lots more information in the R57 section. Check it out <a href="https://www.motoringfile.com/section/r57/" rel="nofollow">here</a>.
I hope they have given the rear seats a bit more rake angle as the old model backrests were vertical and uncomfortable.
Sooooo…..how about the “new” black? Or that black chrome interior option announced here awhile ago?
Cars for South African market go into build in December which would suggest delivery around March.
Some preliminary dealer information shows the following new trim/colour options:
Hot chocolate, carbon black and denim blue soft top hood colours
Leather Lounge Hot Chocolate interior
Exterior colours Midnight Black, Interchange Yellow and Horizon Blue.
There is a wind deflector package planned and an option for rear rack preparation
A rim for Cooper S version called BlackStar Bullet
>Sooooo…..how about the “new†black? Or that black chrome interior option announced here awhile ago?
Yes Midnight black will be an option as it will be for other MINIs. We’ll have more on that soon.
Greg, how come you put quotes around new in your sentence?
Sooooo…..how about the “new†black?
