We all know there will be 500 electric MINIs heading to California sometime in 2009. For those of you that can’t get enough, Motorauthority.com just posted quite a few spy shots.
From what we understand, this isn’t exactly what the Electric MINI will look like when it finally becomes available. As previously reported, this MINI is supposed to have a very distict look, having Interchange Yellow roof and mirror caps.
More details should be available closer to the end of the year, so for now, click through to check out some photos of a MINI without an exhaust.
I know none of the spy shots have them but I wonder if they’ll put fake tailpipes on the car to make it harder to tell that it’s an electric.
Is the back seat usable or full of batteries?
I saw this news item earlier but couldn’t figure out how to bring it to the attention of the MotoringFile staff to get it posted. Can someone direct me to how that is done? Thanks.
Yes, I’d be curious about range, power storage/regeneragtion and/or other technologies in this car. Does it share some gadgets from the Volt or Tesla…totally different stuff? I’m sure we’ll know more over time.
yellow roof and mirrors??? you pay $50k for that???

Pricing has yet to be announced, but since all but 10 of them will be available as leased only, I’m sure over the course of the lease that’s not too far off. The Electric MINI built by Hybrid Technologies sells for just under US$60K.
I think its needs a fake tail- pipe mod.
They need to give one to Ed Begley, Jr.
and I think the fake tail pipe needs a heater, so you can burn your leg on it if you want to.
$60k? Serves politically correct chumps right. Of course wealthy celebs want everyone to know that the care sooooo much more than other people.
Anyone know the weight of the vehicle fully equipped w/battery & motors? (oh, and at a full charge… we know it weighs more when fully charged… for those that don’t pick-up on subtle sarcasm, I kid!)
Greg, it appears that you know nothing about the pros and cons of electric propulsion. You’re stuck in the mindset of only the cost to purchase, not taking into account the the costs to use or the external costs subsidized by others that help pay for the current internal combusion engined vehicles. You ignore the fact that economies of scale have yet to take hold, and you ignore the fact that electric vehicles are twice as effecient in total energy use than internal cumbusion engines.
Fine, you don’t want to buy one. OK, but others who see the long range view of things aren’t stupid, they just make value judgment different than you do.
Early pockect calculators were almost $1000. (I know, my dad got one for $900 long, long ago) Slide rules were $10-$50. Taking your line of thinking we’d all still be using them! IT’s thoughts like this that lead us into the petroleum problem we have now. Keep it up!
Matt
Hey Doc Ob. Have you ever posted anything short enough that anybody has actually finished reading. What a self important wind bag.

Hey Dr. Ob, I also read it and had no problem with the length. Sorry Greg…you’re the only one with the problem here.
