The title says it all. BMW will launch the highly anticipated new sub-brand on Monday. We’ll be in Munich later in the week to talk with BMW about plans for both the new sub-brand and the future of MINI.
For more background on the Megacity project head over to our sister site BimmerFile to read a full report.

That is cool. Definately a more “MINI” look than the Honda-eque/every-other-Euro-sub-compact pod pictured in the concept art.

I’ll be very curious to see how they will sell, and how much they will sell for (just not here in the US, unfortunatly).

With all the new tech involved as well as carbon fiber passenger compartment and body components (WOW!), I’d bet they take a loss on each unit. Helps meet CAFE standards, though.

Again, wish we had the hope of even limited importation.

just not here in the US, unfortunately

It’s definitely coming to the US. However it’ll be premium – more so than the most premium MINIs.

Should be very interesting to see what they come up with for sure. I love the carbon frame, would love to see that come to the rest of the brand.

Yes. Announcement of BMW Sub-Brand on Monday.
new MINI Concept Car revealed on Tuesday…

Shhhhh!

Shhhhh!

nono, tell us more!

Thanks Herr26 going to be a long weekend now ;)

Can we define launch? Will there be prototypes, actual cars or more renderings and marketing speak?

I am not a fan of the name that was chosen for the MINI. Just wanted to get that out there. And no I am not going to spill the beans.

-M

Yes some have already commentated it’s a tad pretentious quoting Elton John…. ;)

Just hopping its not another crossover based “MINI” lol

Tiny dancer?

How about rocketman since MINI loves “man”

HUH? I must have not read this article close enough.

I was going by the whole “MINI city car not destined for US” article posted here this past week.

Well, cool!

the MINI city car is an unrelated concept.

I really don’t know what’s going on anymore with BMW and MINI. Utterly confused at their upcoming overall lineup.

Herr26- Funny, that was my exact comment followed by- at least he us from the UK so I guess that is a positive.

-M

OK – My apologies.

“Megacity” vs. “City Concept” got me all turned around.

My bad!

@ Michael – Yes we showed the car to selected auto media this week in Munich (like we showed the Paceman Concept)
They liked the car but OMG at the name. But be rest assured we will find an alternative title as we are doing for the Paceman and what we have done for the coupe.

@ the MegaCity Vehicle – We will show a Concept at our Bi-annual IAA in September but we will begin the countdown and also include our futuristic eco-Sports car the Vision Efficient Dynamics which not only stars alongside the BMW 6er and other BMW’s in Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol but is destined for two other Hollywoood debuts in the not-so-distant future.

OMG… not, the Rocketman?!?! PLEASE say it isn’t so?

Thanks HERR26! I am very excited to hear next week’s news! I really appreciate your input on MF – MINIacs like me a grateful for your comments :)

As a showcase for intelligent technology, the MegaCity concept car is a brilliant piece of work, but will it ever be a mass produced commercial reality? Probably not.

The car industry is finally developing a coherent plan for a low-consumption future and the signs are that pure electric vehicles will have been mostly written out of the script by 2020.

Upcoming EU regulations will result in the typical Golf-class car being just as environmentally friendly as an EV. The 2013 EU6 exhaust pollution laws are so strict that the air coming out of an exhaust has been found to be cleaner than the air found in the average office!

With EV-matching zero pollution levels and similar CO2 figures, the typical 2020 diesel car will probably result in the EV becoming predominantly the choice of back-to-base operators such as local authorities.

Whatever happens I am glad that small car enthusiasts are finally getting some real choices: MegaCity car, the Mini Coupe, the 3rd gen Mini and Fiat 500 Abarth.

Keep it coming. I went from a 03 Cooper S to a BMW 128 Sport but will find my way back to Mini or Fiat if they push all the right buttons for me.

I am glad my floors are tile, because I’m drooling already. Please, please tell me that us 6’6″ types will fit in it! (I fit in my ’66 Cooper S and my ’06 Cooper!) :)

Where’s the reveal? It’s almost 10 pm here in Germany.
