MINI USA’s site has been going strong since 2001 with with an award winning configurator and relatively consistent look and feel. However there’s been one noose hanging around the neck of the site for the past 4-5 years in its dependance on Flash. With Flash that mean poor performance on some computers and a complete inability to function on most mobile platform (and perform beyond poorly on the ones that do). Today the first steps of ridding Flash from MINI USA are launching with its new tablet site. But there’s a much bigger change coming and a way for you to experience it early.
Yes that’s the tablet site. But as you can see (if you click on it) it also works on the desktop. And more importantly it will form the basis of MINI USA’s new entirely flash free site that will launch later this year.
That’s not to say everything is perfect. Currently the tablet site only supports the tablet horizontal threshold which make viewing the site in the vertical position a bit of a frustrating. But all told this is a huge first step into MINI USA embracing mobile and touch friendly platforms. Or in other words the ones that will really matter in the years ahead.

Glad to see they are finally supporting tablets (and phones) with a full featured site and continuing to move away from flash. I assume this is also the work of Beam.

About time!!!

Great to see it in action! Now all we need is an F56 to build on it. :)

I can’t get it to scroll nor can I get any of the dropdowns to work when viewing on a desktop. Should that be an expected result?

I could get to that site, could get to the build part, but couldn’t do a build. I usually do a horizontal viewing so I didn’t notice that it wouldn’t change. About time.

Problems yesterday; but today I had full functionality although some pages seem to load a bit slow. The packages tab is down the list and seemed a bit awkward.
