MINI Product Manager Pat McKenna took some time out of his busy schedule to chat with us about a couple of the more debated topics on MF recently. First up the GP. More specifically what’s up with the waiver GP owners are having to sign? Then we talk GP sales and value for money.
MotoringFile interview: Patrick McKenna
Clubvan and the chicken tax? Yup we cover that too.
Then we move into talking about the JCW Countryman. Specifically the changes we have noticed from the current US Spec car to the version we drove during MINI Takes the States. According to Pay yes the amazing sound is gone but we may hear it in future MINI models.
Finishing up with the F56 interior, including a little bit of insight from Pat as to what we can expect when it comes out and some final clarification about the GP.
Again, thanks to Patrick and Nathalie for taking the time out of their schedules for the interview. You guys are welcome at any time!

Just listened to the interview, very insightful. It is a great time to be a MINI enthusiast with the release of the GP2 and the start of JCW Paceman production. Thank you for posting it up here and at WRR.

One of your better interviews, IMHO. Kudos for addressing some of the more controversial issues head on (i.e., tire waviers, F56 interior perceptions). Glad it wasn’t just a series of “softballs.” Thanks!

Thanks Gary & John! Apologies for the crappy sound quality but I would agree, we got some great information from Pat.

Is DB eating a snack the entire time?

Sounds like he’s slurping a popsicle, and every now and then slamming a drawer.

Yeeeeshh, whoever made all those tremendously annoying sounds the entire time, PUT YOUR PHONE ON MUTE for God’s sake, if you cannot have the common courtesy to be quiet during an interview. That was incredibly distracting and rude to your guest, and to your audience, and reeked of unprofessionalism, guys. After all the years you’ve been doing this, we expect better!

Content of Gabe’s interview: A

Recording job: F

Yeah, seriously, the coughing, the keyboard keys clicking, the whoosh sounds of someone’s computer, the mouse-clicking… What the heck, guys?

This was a bit of a guerilla recording, guys. Not our usual rig.

I though the content was great. Enjoyed learning about the GP from Pat’s unique point of view. Good interview, despite the many distractions. Had to really fight to stay with the interview during some of those moments.

We do want more of these interviews, just cleaner, if possible. Thanks guys.

I completely agree you anonymous poster, whoever you are.

I understand you expect better. I expect better too. None of us had access to our regular recording gear since, like you, we have day jobs. MINIUSA staff aren’t usually available for interviews after business hours, so we had to make due.

I sincerely apologize for the crappy sound quality.

One day this will be a full time job for one of us. One of these days.

Good candid interview and tidbits about the GP production – very insightful.
