This tagic news comes from MotoringFile reader Fred Hornung:
Here is some bad news from Australia, Saturday a Mini Cooper S crashed into
the spectator crowd in Tasmania and injured 3 people seriously. The Japanese
driver and navigator were shaken but unhurt. (I saw the footage on channel 10
on TV this evening and it was definitely a PW Mini Cooper S, not a Mini
Cooper)

There are few MINI accessories out there that are as seemingly extravagant as the new JCW Leather dash. I mean, it’s a MINI right? Why in the world would you spend the cash on something so exotic? Well I’ve asked myself that very question and all I’ve come up with is… there is no good reason. But then again there is no real reason to do what most of us have done to our cars. It’s all about a personal preference, a look, a feel, and with a leather dash, an atmosphere.

It looks like Autoexpress back with more MINI news based on some spy shots first run by Worldcarfans.com. While there’s nothing new to see that we didn’t get a look at last week and with previous spyshots, there is one bit of info that seems relatively new. Apparently MINI is planning on having some sort of “Traveler” concept ready for the British Autoshow in July. That would fit well with what we had heard last year that MINI was planning on having a larger presence then usual at the show.

Here’s a quick update on what to expect and when to expect it for the US market. As we mentioned previously, MINI will be holding off introducing the R56 to the US market until December production. That means the cars in the US are expected reach some dealers by late January.

We’ve recently learned that MINI will most likely will not be using the name “Traveler” on their upcoming long wheel base car. This is primarily due to the fact that the ownership of the name is quite complex. It’s simply not as easy as say buying the name from one company in the UK. If they decided to use it they’d have to track down dozens of corporations and individuals who currently have the rights in various countries throughout the world. The same can be said for the “Countryman” and “Clubman” marquees as well.
Based on this, look for MINI to go in other directions for the name of it’s long wheel base car due in 2008. Until we hear more about a proper name, we’ll be referring to the car by it’s internal model designation, the R55.

A parade of cars nearly two miles long is a lot of cars, especially when it’s made up of the shortest car in America, the MINI Cooper. At noon on June 17th over two hundred will make up that parade as they motor through the fabled twisties of the Kancamagus Scenic Byway in the White Mountains of New Hampshire during the fourth annual MINIs on Top. At 7:30 after BBQ and speeches the parade resumes, climbing the Mt. Washington Auto Road over a mile into the sky to fill the highest parking lot in the Northeast in time for sunset. The schedule of the events is certain, but what they will be able to see from each vantage point is in question.

MINI’s commitment to the MINI Challenge looks like it will remain strong over for the foreseeable future. This news comes from recent comments made by the head of MINI of Germany and reported on Paddocktalk.com. Here’s an excerpt:

One of the downsides to scooping the rest of the automotive news world from time to time is that we inevitably get 10-12 emails from people who missed the original post telling about the news two weeks later. With the official release this week of the MINI Odyssey PR, it would seem every automotive site out there now has the same piece that we posted March 10th. So in an effort to (A) remind everyone of this incredible journey and (B) make the emails stop, we’re re-posting the press release with a few new pictures of the actual car as well (click to enlarge). We’re also adding a few links to recent TV spots that have aired in South Africa about the trip. Enjoy!
