We had the opportunity to chat with Paddy Hopkirk during MINI United 2009. The man is a racing legend and needs no introduction but for those who may not know, Hopkirk won the Rally Monte Carlo in 1964 in a Mini. Hopkirk’s car number was 37 which is the reason that number remains special to Mini/MINI enthusiasts to this day.
Enjoy the interview.

As we predicted, MINI announced two special edition models today at MINI United the Mayfair and the Camden have countless unique styling touches and the introduction of the “Mission Control” interface (along with a couple of surprises – notice the blacked out headlights…) and will go on sale later this summer around the world.
In the US market we expect these cars to be available as packages much like the Checkmate and Se7en editions were in 2006 and Sidewalk in 2008. In other markets expect these to be available as separate models as mentioned below.
Official Release: The worldwide MINI Community is celebrating the 50th birthday of the brand on the occasion of the MINI United Festival at the legendary British race track in Silverstone from 22–24 May 2009.
Two special models also on the starter grid in Silverstone are the MINI 50 Mayfair and the MINI 50 Camden, two cars which will most certainly convey the great spirit at the anniversary party into lasting driving pleasure on the road. For through their characteristic design and exclusive features alone, these two models live out both the great tradition and the visionary power of the MINI brand.
Both the MINI 50 Mayfair and the MINI 50 Camden are available with two petrol engines and one diesel. They will be launched into the market in September 2009, production of the MINI 50 Mayfair and the MINI 50 Camden starting exactly fifty years after the official presentation of the classic Mini and being limited to just one year.
Directly across from the White Roof Radio/MF tent is the only MINI available in flat BRG, the MINI F1.
We have found out that only 250 will be produced world-wide. We have heard that MINIUSA is working on getting an allotment of these MINIs in the states, but nothing definite is planned at this time.
For now, enjoy the photos, specs after the jump.

We are in England! MINI United starts in just a few hours, but Todd ran into good friend of the show Bruce Nelson (aka professorzoom) in Chicago and he took a few minutes to talk to them.
There are already a few photos on my flickr and even more coming tomorrow!

We’re just hours away from MINI United 2009 and the official kick-off of MINI’s 50th birthday party. So what will this weekend bring? From what we’ve heard we’ll be seeing the ultra limited edition MINI JCW F1 (reported on several times over the last month), and the more widely available Camden and Mayfair editions. In case you forgot or missed the news, here’s what each of these special editions will bring:
F1: Unique non-metallic British racing green, dark JCW wheels, JCW aerokit, interior badges, etc and rumored to only be available in the UK
Mayfair: Hot Chocolate body color with unique wheels, interior trim and badges – available in most markets
Camden: Silver White (R52 Sidewalk color) with unique wheels, interior trim and badges – available in most markets
So our question to you; what else will we see? Or to put it another way, what would you like to see as a surprise debut at MINI United this weekend?
Look for our coverage to commence Friday when Todd and DB interview the likes of Mike Cooper, Gert Hildebrand and Rauno Aaltonen along with some other surprises.
