MotoringFile Edition “MF01″ Sold. Now MF02 Needs You.

_DSC1314

MF01 – our first collaboration with a MINI dealer to create a MotoringFile approved MINI has officially found a buyer. The gentlemen (who wishes to remain anonymous) took delivery of the car a week ago. Congrats to him and of course a big thank you to MINI of Chicago for partnering with us on this first car.

That brings us to what is next. And for that we would like to turn to you. What would you like to see on our second MotorigFile Spec MINI? Our goal is to lower the price a bit (to around $30k mark) and create something based on a Cooper S rather than a JCW. Additionally we want to stay mostly factory and try to rely on MINI’s vast options and accessories catalog. So with that said what would you like to see in MF02? Colors in and out. Options. Accessories. We want to hear your thoughts before we finalize our next MotoringFile Spec MINI.

And as a reminder, here’s a good look at MF01.

    Here’s my suggestion for a 2013 Cooper S Build:

Standard: Chili Red White Roof/Mirrors Leatherette or Cloth Sport Seats

Options: Anthracite Headliner Dash in Fluid Silver Rooster Red Color Line JCW Exterior Package (incl Xenon Headlamps) DTC JCW Sport Suspension (Factory option)

    Total: $29,166

    And a 2013 JCW Build:

Standard: Chili Red White Roof/Mirrors Leatherette or JCW Cloth Sports Seats Dash in Chili Red

Options: Xenon Headlamps JCW Sport Suspension (Factory option)

    Total: $32,716

My build would be as close to an old-school typical, iconic British sports car as possible. Something that honors the old Triumph, MG, Austin Healy 2-door sports cars from decades ago.

So, I went with a manual transmission Cooper Roadster, (intentionally going with a naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder). I also, somewhat predictably, chose British Racing Green II for the exterior color, with chrome line exterior and chrome mirror caps. Had to go with the cold weather package, as well as the sport package, but intentionally left out the technology package. Don’t need that MINI connected, distracting NAV crap. Remember, this car is about old-school, analog motoring. The stereo? The engine note with the top down is my stereo!

This build as is, comes in right at your $30,000 limit, but I’d suggest going with the JCW interior package, which includes an almost mandatory Lounge Leather in the Toffee color. This option adds another $2,500, for a grand total of $32,500.

Tried to keep with some of the themes of MF01.

Cooper S hardtop in White Silver/Black, black ‘sport stripes’ (like MF01), black xenons, and black conical spokes.

Packages: JCW Interior, Premium 2, Sport, and Tech. Also did the cheap version of Cold Weather by spec’ing heated seats and heated mirrors and washer jets.

Those packages give you all the good stuff.

Had some fun in the interior — leather/cloth in black/polar beige, polar beige door panels, and rooster red color line for arm rest and dash trim. Brightens up the interior and gives the splash of red like MF01. I think it makes the interior something unique that you won’t see everywhere.

Added just a touch of Union Jack in mirror covers and door sills.

Added up to just under $31.5
