The new MINI models went on sale in September and already over 1600 orders have been placed for the new MINI One Seven, MINI Cooper Park Lane and MINI Cooper S Checkmate: double the initial sales prediction. The new models offer exclusive specification and additional standard equipment in a cost-effective package.
For example, MINI One Seven exclusively features Solar Red metallic paint, ‘Seven’ cloth and ‘Seven’ interior trim, MINI Seven decals and 15” Delta spoke alloy wheels. MINI One Seven also includes Automatic Stability Control and Traction (ASC+T), sports leather steering wheel, rear spoiler, floor mats, passenger seat height adjustment, storage compartment pack, front foglights, manual air conditioning, on board computer, interior lights pack and white indicators.
Andy Hearn, General Manager for MINI UK, said: As we’ve seen over the last four years, any new product from MINI generates impressive levels of interest at the dealerships. The new models are no exception and continue our efforts to offer new ways of personalising our customers MINIs.

I feel sorry for US potential buyers, perhaps it’s time an American factory was opened?

“perhaps it’s time an American factory was opened?”

maybe…but i would not buy the car then. there is something special about the car being produced outside the US.

I’m not sure what a factory in the US has to do with these UK special editions. Jon – did you mean to post these comments in the story below?

Hmm, AutoExpress don’t agree they are good value for money! They are just “doing the sums” There are times that magazine is just not that hot! They obviously don’t understand the market with this car…

How will this affect future deliveries? I’m ordering an ’06 but I don’t want to take delivery until the spring. My MA said to order in mid-December for a mid-March delivery.

Maybe I should go ahead and order…

Just like the MC40, exclusive specification surely becomes less so when everyone buys it?!

Gabe. With the popularity of Mini in the UK (as well as Worldwide,) this would extend lead times for US deliveries. Also pricing, etc.

I was under the impression that every dealer (in every country) has an allocation. If they have a sudden doubling of demand at dealer X, the delivery time at X would double but the delivery time at Y would be unaffected… Explaining why everyone from California seems to be buying their cars in Ohio.

I just think it’s fantastic seeing the UK fall in love w/ the MINI all over again. Lots of young folks, too. I’m not sure we’ll ever reach such a level of devotion here…MINIs just aren’t in our soul like they are over there. Perhaps in time…but I don’t see it happening. In light of this, let them have their special packages, but it would be great if it was possible for an individual U.S. enthusiast to jump in line if they really, really wanted to.

Re Buying in Ohio…

I live in CA and bought in Ohio for two reasons…

No mark-up over MSRP

Better dealer experience

Late 04 and 05 I saw normal wait times for a MINI in CA…just didn’t want to pay more or deal with dealers trying to justify ripping-me-off, and Julie Saxa at Classic Mini in Mentor, Ohio made the purchase experience totally enjoyable. They know what good customer service is.

Pretty much everything that is available on the special editions is also available in the US as a la carte options.

classic are great people. i live about 10 miles from them. my car went into service this weekend and they gave me a MCC loaner no questions asked.

Yeah I really don’t know why people people wait 6-8 months they could go with a place like Knauz MINI (proudly supporting MotoringFile!) and get a car in 1-2 months. I know this should bother me but for some reason it really does.

Okay, how about this. I’ll buy a beer for any MF reader who flies into Chicago and buys a MINI from Knauz through the end of the year.

There, I’ve done my part to help out US dealer allotment! Now I feel better.

Gabe, did your part to help out US dealer allotment or “freebies”? 😉
If you aren’t getting special treatment from Knauz, I’d be disappointed. More power to ya! You are a credit to their sales & the entire MINI community!

Most people probably don’t know you can get a car faster out of state. I found out recently that our MA didn’t know about the NAM website. She has been there for almost a year.

We bought our first car out of state, but are getting our second locally. We have a decent dealer, no markup and a 10 month wait. We knew we wanted an 06, and put in the order early enough to get an 06 car. I guess it’s easier to wait when you already have one :)

Lovely to see folks all over still excited about the outgoing MINI.

Q: If one chooses Seven’s $200 Piano Black dash here (stateside), are the inner door & center console downtubes also Piano Black?

Thanks in advance, all.

i don’t suppose anyone out there knows where I can purchase that cool new bonnet stripe ‘a la carte’ for my Mini?

Gabe – I live in the Chicago area and just got my MINI from Bill Jacobs. Is that close enough for you to buy me a beer? (grin)
