We just received word that MINI is planning on showing a third MINI Traveller concept, this time at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Apparently the concept will differ slightly from both the Frankfurt and Tokyo concepts in it’s look and feel. We should have further information on this new concept as the show gets closer.
The North American International Auto Show will be open to the public from January 14th through the 22nd.
Frankfurt was a bit sterile – nothing wrong with that given it was the first showing of the concept.
Tokyo was polarizing and ahem “imaginative.”
I wonder what we get for Detroit? A MINI Traveller Woody? A non-metallic BRG with white roof Traveller? A preview of what a true production color scheme might look like?
Good thing I’m going!!!
For a little local, seasonal Detroit humor MINI could add the optional “Paddy Snow Plow” to the front. The Paddy Snow Plow would be another way to fill your toggle switch row (plow up/down), and you could order it with optional anthracite or chrome trim. Each Paddy Snow Plow Edition MINI would be numbered and signed by you-know-who.
No woody sided car please!!!! Why not just ask for a Family Truckster! We need something high tech and sporty.
i was hoping we would get a look at the ’07’s….oh well
TS….. That’s funny stuff.
I haven’t got a woody for that thing yet, I’ll stick with the 1950 Ford for that thank you.
Gabe, any idea if this will show up at the Chicago Auto Show?

Gabe, any idea if this will show up at the Chicago Auto Show?

Not sure. Despite the Chicago show being the largest in the US I’m guessing not. The Chicago Auto Show is much more of a “public show” rather than an “industry show”. I’m just not sure if that would be working for it or against it.
YES YES YES YES YAY!!!!!!!!
I will be there! I will!
I haven’t been to the NAIAS auto show in quite a few years (uhh, 4 or so). Maybe I should try getting a press pass…
Sweet. Its as simple as that one word.
Will it be there in the San Francisco International Auto Show starting this weekend thru the Thanksgiving?
I think I read somewhere (maybe on Motoring File) that Chris Bangle said the Tokyo Concept was built on the Frankfurt Concept. I wonder if the Detroit car will be built over the Tokyo Concept. If so, we won’t get to see the original Frankfurt Concept in person.
Still, this is the first time I’m going to get to go to the NAIAS so I’m pretty fired up about the MINI Concepts and the show, in general.
Hey Gabe, how about a Motoringfile reader meet up at the NAIAS?

Sounds like a great idea. However if a Chicago MF contingent goes… it’ll be on a press day. Would that still be cool? I mean it would be like meeting up somewhere for drinks and dinner (hmm now why did I say drinks first) somewhere in the area.
Drinks …………..I’m flyin’ out!
The first concept was a “sporty” MINI. How about a “rugged” MINI? A little more road clearance, a little bigger tires, and a tease that All Wheel Drive is a possibility. Think the MINI Concept in Audi AllRoad or Volvo Cross Country clothing. Dark sage green with silver roof and mirrors, dark charcoal wheel arches and skirts, tan leather and light brown carpet. Maybe leather/suade sport seats. Driving lights optional. 😉
Ten bucks says that the new concept will feature more ‘off road’ styling, something like a Subaru Outback. I am not saying this is a good idea, but given North America’s fascination with SUVs and the outdoor lifestyle image, I can see MINI taking this approach. Just like Tokyo had a picnic set, this one may have camping gear and raised suspension. Hope I am wrong.
Looks like Jeffrey and I think alike! I think we were typing at the same time.

Er, is Gabe buying? 🙂
Well how about a bling Mini since the show is afterall in Detroit?
