The Dutch auto site autojunk.nl has some interesting photos of a Clubman prototype undergoing some testing out in the wild. Now we’ve seen dozens of Clubman shots out in the wild, but these are fairly unique. For one we have confirmation that Right-hand drive model (like the one spotted) will indeed have the coach door located on the right side of the car. While no surprise MotoringFile readers, it’ll come as a shock to the readers of UK car mags who’ve all reported the door will switch to the left side of the car when it comes to their market. Also confirmed in this image is the return of the silver roof (which will be an exclusive option on the Clubman) and the optional sunroof.
But the most interesting aspect? If you look closely at the front of the car, you’ll notice (beyond the test driver taking a picture of the guy taking a picture of him) the distinctive air intake of a MINI Cooper D.
This gives further verification to what we’ve reported for months; MINI will be offering the Clubman with every engine option available in the Coupe as well. Look for the Clubman D to debut in the spring of 2008 – a few months after the debut of the petrol line-up.

These are great shots! These photos confirm the fact that the R55 looks so much better than the R56 is not even funny.
Thanks again. Really looking forward to this awesome machine.
“the fact”?
Still would love to see the new D make its way to this side of the pond.
Wait now…is that actually a MINI? I can’t tell, as the hood ornament is covered up with tape.
Hmm – I think the MiniD has different hood sheet metal than the One or the Cooper. A wider raised portion, more like the S without the scoop.

Exactly right! The washer jets are inside the crease of the bonnet bulge as on the CooperS, whereas the Cooper and One are to the outside of the ‘bulge’.
Well spotted that man – this is normally a little test for newbies on the line – just to see if they can tell the difference between different models from a distance….yes we get a little bored lol.
nice uk plates, nice CLUBY
I love the “D” hood..wider bulge and no scoop. I wonder if it could be retrofitted to the “S”?
Can some one elaborate on the “distinctive air intake of a MINI Cooper D.” ? What am I supposed to be looking at here? How is the D air intake different?
The lower air intake of the D is characterized by a single horizontal divider bar – you don’t see this treatment on the S or Cooper.
And Billy – where do I send my application!

Yep. It is undeniable that the R55 boasts better proportions from nearly every angle than the R56 coupe.</blockquote>
“(beyond the test driver taking a picture of the guy taking a picture of him)” -> The ‘guy’ taking the picture is actually a she…. 😉
