Now that NAIAS is over I thought a quick round-up of coverage on the MINI Concept Detroit was in order:
[ BMW to Build MINI Concept ] Autonews.com
[ Are you ready to party? Mini is ] Free Detroit Press
[ BMW shows a little bigger MINI ] Detroit News
[ BMW Mini Concept transforms for winter ] Detroit News
[ MINI Concept Detroit Video ] MSN Autos
Of course this is just a fraction of what’s out there. If anyone has other links, post them in the comment section.
Another link (in italian), with photoes, from Virtual Car
Is it just me or does this car have less front overhang than the spy shot R56 we saw on the video? I do very much like the more upright nose and grill on this car. If only the headlights were forward to match.
Is it just me?
I have an ’04 MINI with more miles on it than I like to have.
So………
I’m starting to think about its replacement.
My buying history is buying a new car then replacing it with the same new model two or three years later. So I’m really a two model buyer and should be getting a new MINI for my next car.
But, I’m not impressed with what I’m seeing and hearing from MINi about the future.
(First hint – my current MINI is the now discontinued black color which I really want on my next car. I had it on the car I had before my MINI too.)
The concept car MINI showed at Detroit did NOTHING for me.
I sure hope the next MINI is actually shown soon or I might be posting on another brands owners site in the future.
(Are you listening MINI?)

Is it just me? …. The concept car MINI showed at Detroit did NOTHING for me.
I have to agree. Other than making me nauseous.
Glad I have my brand new ’06 MCS. That should give BMW/MINI time to get their act together and return the design back to something closer to the ’02 MINI. No increase in length, no radical styling changes. It is the fact that the original Mini stayed the same size for 50 years that has made it unique. The styling was also maintained for 50 years with only minor changes.
What is BMW/MINI thinking? Oh, that’s right, they aren’t!
