How cool is this?
>On the evening of Wednesday, 28 March, 269 MINIs illuminated Blackpool and set a new Guinness World Record for the longest MINI convoy in the world. Owners travelled from as far as Croydon and Cardiff to be part of the historic two-mile route and help raise cash for Comic Relief. The record was previously held by the Vancouver MINI club when in 2004 they brought together 195 new and classic Minis. The parade was organised by UK MINI dealership Derek Woodman.
Wow! That’s a lot of MINIs!

Here’s the official press release from MINI UK:

> James Rashid, MINI Brand Manager at the dealership, said: “We really wanted to do something for Comic Relief this year and the ‘longest MINI convoy ever’ seemed to fit the theme of ‘The Big One’. We never imagined it would become this big! Hearty congratulations to my team for pulling it off and thanks to all the MINI owners for making it happen!â€ÂÂ
Yes, yesterday I had to read the BMW Pressclub text twice, it says 28th of April 🙂 Any pictures of this nice event?
It did show the picture I linked too in the preview, but not in the post. Please merge the two above with correct picture?

BUT WHAT ABOUT AMVIV???
Weren’t there more MINI’s on the Las Vegas strip just 2 weeks ago?
Next year, the organizers of AMVIV have to get the people from Guiness out to Vegas! It’s time to bring the record back to the states!
guess we’ll just have to beat that record at some point, i’m thinking the first weekend of may sounds good
>BUT WHAT ABOUT AMVIV???
Ah yes, the Strip Cruise. I’m sure there were almost that many cars. But, we weren’t in 1 line and the Guiness people didn’t show up to do the official count.
Looks fun. Mini meets like theDragon are a blast. Even with hundreds of the same car at one event they all have their own personality.
I was one of the 269! It was a fantastic evening. Everyone had a great time, even tho it was dark by the time we set off it was an amazing site. I have some pics on my website if you want a look.

Hey? What happened to the rest of my post? Well, here it is:
😀 I could see the MINI community keeping the Guinness Book people busy on both sides of the pond with this fun, friendly competition! So who’s gonna call the Guinness people about the parade at the Tail of The Dragon? There are 375 cars registered as I write.
269 cars should be a cakewalk in USA. Just offer free beer and hot dogs…
We will be attempting to beat the record just in Blackpool UK set on JUNE 10th 2007 in Virginia Beach VA. This will be a benefit for the families of fallen Navy Seals. We need all who would like to be involved to contact us. We would love to bring the record back to the US. Any and all support is welcome. Contact us thru any of the local club sites.

I have already contacted Guinness. The local police here will co-ordinate with us and the Seals will help to record VIN# etc that Guinness requires.
Sorry. Bad typing. The Record was set in the UK Our attempt will be in Virginia Beach VA on June 10th.
You might be a little late Simon!! I’d keep an eye on the Dragon Parade on May 4th at 09:00. Looks like there are already 377 cars registered for the Dragon, It’ll be interesting to see how many more show up!!! Don’t remember the count of cars in 2005 on the dragon, but there are 247 in the panoramic photo from that year!
Unless the rules have changed, the convoy or parade must be continuous for a driving distance of at least 2 miles. The cars cannot be more than 1 car length apart and the vin# of each car verified with the name of the owner at the start and finish. No other vehicles can interupt the convoy and there must be independent, or Guinness, verification of the number and Vin of each car. Guinness is very particular about their rules don’t you know.
I don’t believe they are attempting for a Guinness listing or anything, Just that there will be a whole lotta MINIS there!! Hope you do make the listing though, and bring it to the US. Good Luck!!
We had well over 400 MINI’s on the track at the same time at Indianapolis last August during the MINI Takes the States rally. I thing we pretty much encircled the 2.5 mile track with 2 lines of cars. Too bad no one thought about documenting it for a record attempt.
That is just BS!
I’ve been in a way bigger convoy, all classics, back in Silverstone in 1999.
There had to be well over a thousand Minis and we did a couple of laps of the circuit.
Guiness Book of BS Records!

IN 2008 IN South Africa, Limpopo Province Women in Business convoyed for over 50km against crime and HIV/ADS in 400 vehicles and again this year in August they will be convoying in about 600 vehicles…!thats their annual crime campaign and it looks like theconvoy will grows bigger year by year
