MINI USA to Add 19 New Dealers
We’ve heard it quite a bit over the past year (including an official press release). But the Automotive News has the latest twist on MINI’s expansion plans in the US. According to the publication MINI USA intends to use vacant dealers left over from the Big 3’s dealer reductions over the last year.
>”As the market has gone through these changes, it has made real estate available for Mini in places where we want to be,” McDowell said.
>For example, Mini will open a store in Birmingham, Ala., in a former Cadillac dealership and one in Alexandria, Va., on the site of a former Chrysler dealership.

<p>The Austin dealership has been on the horizon for a long time…they’ve been saying “later this year” for about 2-3 years now.</p>

<p>For everyone outside of Quebec, that bodes well. Here it is a moot point with them all colluding. Buying one is never the problem, but service at dealers in Quebec is open only from 9-5 and are closed at lunch [oh ya, 9-2 on Fridays from such a hard week]. Who needs more when you can never go. You guy’s don’t know how lucky you are not to be the bastard stepchild. We don’t even have a Dinan outlet.</p>

<p>We would love to have sales and service in Eastern Iowa — maybe Iowa City? Davenport? Cedar Rapids? When you tell people that your dealership is 250 miles away, they lose that sparkle very quickly.</p>
<p>I know MINI has all of the plans outlined BUT we would love to see a dealership here in Jackson, MS so we didn’t have to drive/tow 3 hours to the closest MINI shop!</p>

<p>The Raleigh dealer was planned well before the massive shutdown of big three outlets. It is in an old dealership building but it was home to a few different foreign names over the years. I actually bought a Daihatsu Charade there in 1989.</p>
<p>They are opening one in El Paso, TX on 1 Dec….no more 4 hour drive to the dealer for us!</p>

<p>love to have a dealer in northwest louisiana, the only trouble with convincing others around here to buy a mini is closest dealer worth its salt is moritz in arlington texas, or the 4 hour drive to baton rouge</p>
<p>This is good and bad! It will bring on discounts in order to keep people in the dealerships area. You may feel that is great for the consumer. But discounts help drive resale prices DOWN. Look at the vehicles that have really big discounts…they ALWAYS have really huge rebates and discounts. On the flip side it brings get Service Departments all over the nation. Do you really care if you have to go a couple of hundred miles to BUY your car. Not that big a deal you only buy your MINI one time. It is however important to have a Service department close by. Something to think about!</p>
