If you’ve been following the Continental Challenge series in Grand Am, you already know all about the success the RSR MINI’s have been having. Hugely competitive in the ST class, Sarah Cattaneo has been impressive bringing her #197 R53 to pole at Homestead in Miami, while her teammates, BJ Zacharias and Craig Conway, in the #198 car finished on the podium in 3rd. The MINI’s pace is no fluke, Cattaneo again qualified 6th in Birmingham at the Barber 200, and the #196 car driven by Smalley, Trinkler, & Zacharias taking pole at the Bosch 200 in Virginia. With good results in qualifying and RSR’s first ever podium this year, the team is peforming well demonstrating the outright pace of the MINI.
We’d like to encourage our readers to head out to Lime Rock to support the MINI’s over the Memorial day weekend, May 28,29. Grand-Am and Lime Rock are putting together a Car Corral for MINI owners with some great swag to giveaway: Piloti shoes, flags, pit passes, and more. Tickets are a reasonable $30 and available at www.limerock.com. The classes will be split for the first time this season which should make for a true test of the teams and yield some excellent racing.

If anyone would be interested in a partner to share the experience (and fuel expense) please let me know. I am relatively new to Fairfield County CT and have never been to Limerock.

Wish I could go as Limerock is one of my favorite tracks. Lucky for me I live relatively close to Midohio so I can still get my racing fix. Gotta love that RSR MINI!

I’ve been convinced for years that MINI USA is missing the boat in not capitalizing on team RSR and these racing MINIs. It’s a perfect opportunity for fabulous PR and adverts. Besides being a great show and lots of fun to watch and attend any of these races.

I second that Peter!

Great job RSR

I thought that the general consensus was that Mini didn’t fit well into any of the racing classes, that they would be up against cars that out classed them. Perhaps thats more for less modified classes? I’m glad to see that is not true, but where exactly are these cars classed and what kind of cars are they racing against? Are the fields mixed class?

I’ll third that. RSR is doing a great job and MINI would reap many benefits if they would sponsor their program. Press coverage alone would be worth it.

We’ll be there with the entire family. Always a great day.

Be sure and stop by and visit us in the paddock.

We always have time to talk to MINI fans!

I notice thats a R53 and not a R56. Interesting.

Where do we get info about the Mini corral?

Matt:

The R56 is not classed in Grand Am yet. Maybe next year.

In the meantime the R53 is still very competitive.
