Britain’s Autocar is reporting that Prodrive boss David Richards would ideally like a British driver behind the wheel of the Countryman WRC:
>”The driver choice will be down to Mini and ourselves,” said Richards. “Mini doesn’t really seem to have a preference on driver choice or where they’re from, but I’ve always had a patriotic streak in me and it’s well documented that Prodrive has had success with British drivers before. It’d certainly have appeal if we were to take a third British driver to a world title, and in a British car.”
Reigning Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Kris Meeke and Skoda UK IRC driver Guy Wilks seem to be favorites with Meeke being the front runner given his highly rated skill.
Almost as interesting Richards goes on to give a glimpse as to the size and scope of MINI’s WRC effort:
“When you’ve got a firm that’s as steeped in the World Rally Championship as we (Prodrive) are, and then you end up spending two years away, it does feel like a strange period,” he said. “But to come back with a brand like Mini is terrific. This isn’t some lame, half-hearted effort; it’s an absolutely full-blooded campaign.”

Pleased to see both camps are talking a serious game. Two years is a long time indeed.

ROBBY GORDON, would be my choice if he was smart enough to take the gig. But Robby doesn’t always make the right choice, unfortunately.

I am willing to change my citizenship to the UK, if they need someone…

Alas, poor Colin McRae. If he stayed out of helicopters long enough, he’d have been perfect for this gig.

All good choices, not surprised by Prodrives treating this as a true effort. I have never seen them do anything half way.

Still should be a blast to see more competition in the WRC. As a bonus I will get to watch the R60 crash sometime during the series. lol

Do Americans really care about Rallying? I can’t remember ever reading about any patriots that have ever competed in WRC events. Correct me if I am wrong.
I can imagine now a few saying – Who was Colin McRae?

Some of us do care about Rallying. Still want a Ford RS200. For those who do not know.

“I can imagine now a few saying – Who was Colin McRae?”

Or sadly also, who was Richard Burns…

Going against the grain here on so many levels but someone well known in MINI circles with a great background and skills…..Ms. Steffi Halm

Robby Gordon? Are you kidding? He doesn’t even know how to turn right, much less take ‘yumps’ at 100 – 150kph on ice. When was the last time you saw a NASCAR race run on studded tires?

Doesn’t matter who drives, as long as they win!

They need to get RICKY BOBBY

QUIK VIC Elford’s always looking for gigs! ;)
