MINI Creates Incredible TV Spot For the Countryman
This week MINI is debuting the European TV spot “Flow” for the launch of the Countryman . The spot was created by BSUR Amsterdam was directed by Brian Beletic and Sway Studios from LA. The spot features CG enhancement to turn a single MINI Countryman into an entire army of Countrymen that grows bigger with every hugged curve and smaller with every short stop. The various Countryman (not Countrymen mind you) skillfully make their way from town to country, traversing the city streets towards the open road. From there the MINI Countryman reaches a picture-perfect coastline then goes beyond — flying onto a ferry and out into the open sea.
This is hands down one of the best MINI Commercials we’ve ever seen. From the concept to the production to the CG the final result is full of the right energy for the brand and the product. Kudos to all involved.
But how did they actually make it? Check it out after the break.
MINI and BSUR has also created a making of the commercial to give us a behind the scenes look at how it all came together. It’s an incredible view of everything that goes into a high level production like Flow. We actually find it more interesting than the very good TV spot.
As some of you may have guessed the production was located in the the heart of Milan and around Lake Como.
<p>Most creative car commercial I’ve seen in a long time. Kudos. Nice concept and very well executed.</p>
<p>From an advertising standpoint, though, my only criticism would be that by requiring the suspension of disbelief with respect to flying off the cliff and jumping from dock to ferry, the line between fantasy and what Mini wishes to convey the Countryman truly is capable of handling (curb hopping, light off-road duty) gets too blurred and someone not familiar with the vehicle would be likely to assume those scenes are just as fictitious as the shadows on the rooftops.</p>
<p>Looks like I’m the only one that doesn’t really like it. I think it was the ‘flying through the air’ part that wrecked it for me. Do they need to make the car fly to make it interesting? I also wanted a more impressive ending, but more realistic. Top Gear beach landing style. The CGI and driving were good though.</p>
<p>That was very refreshing to watch. Well done!</p>
<p>For people blaming MINI -again- for “promoting” reckless driving, have you watched any toy commercials for boys ages 5-10 involving any type of vehicle? Those are more dangerous compared to this ad :)</p>
<p>This reminds me of a video Nissan did a few years ago for their 350Z called “the run” where they drove a 350 through the streets a Prague…I’ve been trying to get my hands on an original DVD copy of that for years (they exist) buy have been unsuccessful.</p>
<p>This is pretty sweet though…and of course…ALL MINI!!!</p>
<p>awesome!</p>
<p>Excellent!</p>
<p>WOW!!</p>
<p>Really cool stuff.</p>
<p>that was great. finally a great commercial from mini. the recent ones have been a bit boring.</p>
<p>im starting to think that the perfect garage for me would be a countryman and the new bmw 1M side by side.</p>
<p>That was very COOL.</p>
<p>While still not a R60 fan a very good commercial and quite fun. Think its the best one I have seen in many years from MINI.</p>

<p>Great, just great. Phony CGI commercial glorifying reckless, dangerous driving by scruffy young males. The perfect marketing ploy.</p>
<p>I really enjoyed that! Watched the Italian Job just last evening, but this was fun too!</p>
<p>Freakin’ Fantastic!</p>
<p>Wonderful concept, excellently carried out!</p>
<p>That was a way cool fun video.</p>
<p>I see MINI is still encouraging reckless driving. :(</p>

<p>Great commercial for a truly ugly car.</p>
<p>Pretty cool. Everything looked realistic except the flying through the air CGI … looked unfinished somehow.</p>
<p>Cool concept though and very exciting delivery!</p>
<p>Great commercial, shame like many good MINI things, it’s Europe only at this point…</p>
<p>Also, I couldn’t help being reminded of this YouTube video:
