MINI let slip a few Countryman pricing details tonight at the press launch for the 2011 model range. The big news is that the Countryman Cooper (the base car in the US) will start at a base price of $22,350. It’s surprising in that it’s only $550 more than the equivalent Clubman. Additionally, MINIUSA head Jim McDowell told us that a R60 MCS All4 (with a few popular packages) will come in under $30k.
All things considered it’s very aggressive pricing for a car that offers more room and features than any MINI before it. Look for much more information to come tomorrow.

Wow the iphone auto-word is messing up. The post is all jumbled.

Yeah, until it gets edited, this is a mess to understand.

I’m impressed.

And, as an iPhone owner, could understand all of it. It’s a new form of Pig Latin :-)

If the options on the 30K ALL4 Countryman S are cold, sport and bluetooth I’m sold for sure.

It doesn’t have to have all4, But has to Be Chili Red, White roof and have cold pack, Bluetooth, and that nifty roof vent with wing!

It will be interesting to see what happens to Clubman sales. I would guess that the Clubman won’t survive for long.

So the Juke S, ugly as one may find it, has over 50% more power and is nearly $3500 cheaper than the Cooper Countryman. And it sounds like a pretty darned good handler – better (gasp!) than the Countryman, according to MT.

Seems like you’d have to place a mighty big premium on aesthetics for the Countryman to make sense.

@ Dean: I wish it would come in chili red as well….

Interesting how close that places the price to the clubman (only $550 more).

Chili Red ? not available on Countryman

“Awful Red” rather

I think its a mistake to offer this with 2 drivetrains. Just sell one and be competitive in pricing.

And every car in the lineup does not need to be in the same price niche as your already successful car, unless you want to cannibalize your own sales.

I’m going to guess in 2016 we will see the line simplified after sales poop.

does anyone know what colors the countryman will be available in? ive gone on the uk mini site to check out their color options, but the choices are so ugly im hoping the us will have a nicer variety…

I agree about the Juke. While the looks of it are surely not to everyones liking, the price, power and handling are hard to overlook. Add the fact that it seats five makes it even more appealing, IMHO.

Specs comparison:

Wheelbase:

Countryman: 102″
Juke: 99.6″

Overall Length:

Countryman: 161″
Juke: 162.4″

Just FYI………….My local dealership will tentatively have their first Juke on the lot on October 17th. I will definitely be taking a good look at it and if anyone wants to know what I think I will be more than happy to post my comments on here.

p>@spaltback</p

Light White, Pure Red, Oxford Green, Crystal Silver, Bright Yellow, Light Coffee, Surf Blue, True Blue, Absolute Black, Royal Grey, Cosmic Blue.

Check your local dealer, they should have the new brochures.

I want to like MINI’s again, I really do. I just feel like I am getting nickel and dimed to death on the configurator. Almost $30k for an S with a couple of things. The Clubman and Countryman are simply not appealing to me in the least. Let’s hope the Coupe and Roadster are as good in production form as in prototype form.

Pure Red is like Blood orange… such a shame when you know the wonderful Chili red

RIP Clubman!

So those of you who decide to go run out & buy that piece of crap Nissan Juke, so you can save a couple of bucks. Be sure to take a box of tissue with you when you go to trade in the thing you thought would seat five and would be fun to drive, because your friends & family make fun of you, your girlfriend found someone else (most likely a MINI Owner) & no one will buy the thing from you, because it’s worth a 1/4 what you paid for it. Cheers!!!

I was thinking the same thing about the Clubman so I spoke to my sales guy since I own a Clubman S (http://bit.ly/8YlQBC) and was pretty concerned about the secondhand market being screwed by the Countryman. He said Mini consider the two cars as serving very different markets. The Clubbie is mainly for two people who want the extra space when they need while the Countryman is for the Mini owner who maybe has two kids and doesn’t want to sacrifice the brand.

I’m hoping the custom work I’ve done to my Clubbie keeps the price up anyway :)

I think it’s kind of funny comparing it to the Juke. I guess it’s like when they compared the Cooper S to the New Beetle or PT Cruiser in 2003. I mean you may as well go out and buy a Kia Rio, Scion xB, or Honda Element if you’re looking to save money. Here’s the Motortrend article comparing the two in similar trim… http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/suvs/1007_2011_mini_countryman_2011_nissan_juke_comparison/specs.html …I’m still trying to figure out which lights are the headlights on the Juke.

p>@retrohasen</p

thanks, i definitely will :)

Funny, the “less powerful” Mini managed to beat the Juke in the 0-62 time.

If the MC Countryman is $22,350 (a $550 premium over MCS Clubman) then the MCS Countryman should be $26,050 (same $550 premium over MCS Clubman) and the MCS Countryman All4 should be around $27,600 (~6% premium as noted in a previous interview with Vinnie Kung on MotoringFile).

“R60 MCS All4 (with a few popular packages) will come in under $30k”

My interpretation of this statement is:
$27,600 + $1,250 Convenience Package + $750 Cold Weather Package = $29,600

If this holds, I will be pleasantly surprised!

I’m not sure what this will do to Clubman sales overall – but I recently still purchased a Clubman. I wanted a fuel efficient, small car that had a little more room than the hardtop.

The Countryman size increase, while likely still able to easily park in the city, will take a hit in MPG and the higher ride was not what I was looking for (our other car is an SUV).

But I may be in the minority…

I suspect the Countryman S with All4 will be over $40K in Canada.

That is great news! I’ve been waiting for pricing info. Given this news I can honestly say my next car will be the MC Countryman. I’ll drive my 2007 MC until around 2013, then buy the Countryman, if I can wait that long!!

MINI Countryman S JCW Kitt

Funny, the “less powerful†Mini managed to beat the Juke in the 0-62 time.

The MT comparison was between an All4 Countryman S and an AWD Juke. Those cars have nearly identical power. However, that version of the Juke (which won the comparison) will cost ~$7000 less(!) than that version of the Countryman.

The base FWD Cooper Countryman at $22,350 will have only 120hp, making it a bit of a slug. The base FWD Juke at $18,960 will have nearly 190hp and should be a bit quicker than the AWD version.

In the future, you will be able to park the Juke next to the Pontiac Aztek and other design monstrosities in the automobile hall of shame. Damn the practicality and the power. I just can’t even consider a car that ugly. I’m very happy with this pricing. Now, I wonder what it will be like in about 5 years when we go to replace our CR-V. I’d love to have a MINI-only garage. I think everyone wonders about the fate of the Clubman. Since the next one will be based on the R60, it could stand to grow a little in length and become a better wagon for those who don’t like the Countryman.

While the Juke was clearly beaten hard with an ugly stick, it was a much smaller ugly stick than that used on the Aztek. I think you might be pleasantly surprised when you see the Juke in the flesh. And even more so when you drive one. And Nissan stomps MINI on reliability. So its really a no brainer. Yeah, right…

@that.guy
Yeah, but the Juke will also plummet in resale value, while the MINI will hold on for longer. So I guess it depends really. If the MINI holds on to $7000 more in resale, then it would be a wash really. However, you would have a much ‘cooler’ car with the MINI.

This is great news though. I might venture to Countryman on my next MINI Cooper then…

The Juke takes some styling risks for sure…but the Countryman isn’t winning any beauty contests, either.
