WorldCarFans is reporting that chinese automaker Geely will unveil their new Emgrand EC6-RV at the upcoming Shanghai auto show. They also point out something probably completely obvious to most MotoringFile readers. Does this car look familiar? Let’s take a closer look.
The dimensions are similar and that white roof is definitely smuggled from Oxford. We’ve seen asian MINI clones before and this one isn’t particularly remarkable, but it does have me thinking about car design. Take a close look at this car, my friends. This is what the MINI would be if BMW didn’t have a design team that really cared about the car’s heritage, and about standing out in the marketplace. This is what a MINI looks like without a soul. Behold the chinese zombie MINI!
Special thanks to Kirk for sending this in.

The Chinese. They pirate our movies. The pirate our software. Now they pirate our cars.

Who is “our” in your scenario…?

The western countries, obviously. Open your eyes.

Ah! So you guys speak for all of Western Civilization. Got it. Thanks for clearing that up…

Hyundai’s already been doing this for years.

Looks like a MINI and Ford Focus had a fling.

Seel all you Countryman haters, it could be WAY worse! I guess everything is relative.

Looks like a Kia and a MINI got busy…. Sad.

Not a fan of it but I don’t think its the worse design I’ve seen from the Chinese market. I would not say this is a clone as much as a direct competition to MINI in the Chinese market. No doubt the MINI will be a better car but Greely will likely be aiming it lower market.

Other than having a white roof (Ford Edge and Toyota FJ also have that) I really don’t see a resemblence. Certainly not enough to call it “A clone”.

I see more of a Countryman / Juke combination

It would seem that Geely is to Mini, as Pat Boone is to Marvin Gaye.

Not without merit, but a little bland in comparison.

Brains!!!

Kia+Fiat=This PoS

Feel more like a mini and a “smart” for2.

Real MINI Clones have Bonnet Stripes…..

Jack G.

So this will cost 14 bucks and smell like model cement…It is really not rven close to what a MINI is or looks like. Certainly not like the clone the LIFEN Motor Co. rolled out a few years back. Anyone remember the 320?

Hey the wheel arches are painted!

There is more French hot hatch (side, rear quarter) and Ford hot hatch (entire front assembly) than there is MINI (white roof and black roof pillars, stance) in this styling melange. It has some good proportions and a decent stance, in fact.

If the Chinese can’t own it, they clone it!

@Guest – Yeah, why can’t they dream up and invent something original? Is it a left side / right side brain thing? Pardon me if I am mistaken but isn’t Geeley an Indian company?

Ok, that one does not look THAT similar to a mini,

Have you guys seen this one? The Lifan 320?

I feel bad everytime I pass close to one..
