Our first look at what will undoubtedly by a waterfall of JCW accessories for the new F56. We expect the full-on factory JCW to look a bit different but be thematically similar.
Look for wheels, wings and plenty of other accessories to drop soon.

I’ve had enough. WHO THE FUCK DESIGNS THESE THINGS?! Lose the fogs and run giant aero just like the M3 and M5 and voila! It will look badass and flow much better!

I think the aero business will be booming with the release of this hideous ape. Don’t get me wrong! I think the car will be a major step up, but whoever designed the front really did that on a Sunday after a bad night filled with cheap tequila and gin.

The looks rock. The lower side ridge is killer.
That door is way better now. The front is busy but OK. The rear does look a little glued on but better than most cars. Who looks at the back?

I agree. The Honda Element is pretty cool, even though I liked the original version with the contrasting bumpers better. Seems they dumbed down the design a bit the last few years.

I’m not alone in implying that the Element is ugly, the Element is on most “ugliest cars” lists. The first generation was the worst, they got slightly better as time went on, but they were never what I would call a good looking car, or even decent looking. Just to let you know, I’m only commenting on the looks, not the practicality or performance.

Clearly FIAT put a mole inside BMW and they ended up running design for MINI. So much for my hope that the JCW would be a band-aid for the S looks. I don’t care if this thing has 400hp. Not interested. 🙁 Maybe the GP will be better. I want to buy another Mini in the future but they’re making it really hard. I know people always complain about the new generation of a car but I think all of us that are honest with ourselves can agree that the new look (other than the base car) is terrible.

I agree with you! It was a bad joke. I was saying that FIAT got in control of Mini’s design team to destroy the Mini this way people might actually look at a Fiat instead. If the Abarth wasn’t such a crappy toy to drive it would be next on my list. It looks and sounds beautiful!

Simply…horrific! I’ve owned 4 MINI’s and currently own the WC50 with go2 rear diffuser and AccessPort. Looks like I’m on hold for about 7 years. BMW and MINI need to fire their current designers. Very disappointing!

Can’t fire the designer, he just got promoted to Design Director for Rolls Royce…. he also designed the Z3 Coupe, and the Paceman, two of the ugliest cars ever to come out of Munich’s Design Studios. I see a golden opportunity for after-market parts people!

Clearly Mini isn’t paying attention to what everyone is saying on this forum as well as others. It was pretty clear that the overwhelming majority of people dis-liked the spy photos when they came out, and now we get the final product, with no improvement. It looks like Mini is designing for the masses now, and not paying attention to the loyalist that really help build and market this brand in the USA. Although, I think they may have a hard time selling to the masses as well. I guess we will see. I was really looking forward to a 2015 JCW with increased power, lighter weight and better looks, but I guess I will just have to wait till someone comes out with a better body kit. It’s a shame that I would have to alter a car so much from it’s original design. Maybe it will grown on me after seeing in person at the L.A Auto show, but that sucks that I have to convince myself that I like it, a car should make your heart skip a beat the first time you see it. That’s like going on a date with someone your not much attracted too, but hey, they got a great personality, maybe they will grow on you. 🙂
The 2015 Mustang is starting to look like a really good option. Good luck Mini.

The internet is full of people telling you what not to do. Listen to them and you’ll do nothing, or at least nothing interesting. Almost everything MINI has ever done has been hated by some vocal minority of existing MINI fans, only to later earn an even larger following of loyal enthusiasts.
Look at the R56, the Clubman and the Countryman. Each was hated with fury in the comments here on MotoringFile before, during and after they debuted. Good thing MINI didn’t listen as we now have thousands of readers who own those cars and love them.
From a certain point of view, MINI owes their success to ignoring the complainers.

Yes, I understand what you are saying, and agree that to be an innovator you have to be bold and different to push designs forward. And yes their will always be a vocal minority that will not like a new model or design, but that’s just it, it’s not a minority here, and it’s not just existing mini fans. I’ve been reading hundreds of comments on Jalopnik, Yahoo Autos, and other sites that have the same tone. This is an overwhelming majority of people that agree that Mini missed the mark with this design. Mini is in business to sell car’s, it behoves them to pay attention to what the enthusiast as well as the average car consumer has to say about their potential designs. Believe me, I love Mini, and I wan’t to love this car, and for the record I’ve never disliked the R56, the Clubman or the Countryman. It’s really pretty simple, they did a lot of things right, but a few things wrong that mess with the overall appeal and design of this car. Just look at the front end of the concept, that is very close to this production version, but the subtle differences is what make the concept so much more appealing. IMO that concept should have been the new model. Sure there would have still been people that didn’t like it, but I bet it would be a lot less. Heck, who know, I may end up buying this model one day, but for one reason only, the way it drives.

I cannot remember the number of haters of R56 compared to this one. I remember there were few and I feel majority of MINI loyals hates the deisgn of this one.

Amen. This is the truth. I work for MINI and sell them and can not wait to get my hands on this new car. It looks more like an original than any of the other have. Lots of cars have this big grill going on right now. Such as Audi.

I am with you 110%! The design is so hideous and out of proportion especially the cockpit 🙁 I am disappointed with BMW management & designers. I will be surprised if it sells well……I am keeping my R56.

Firstly, thank you motoringfile for the best coverage of the new F56 on the net! Secondly, as an owner of a 2008 FJCW who upgraded this year to one of the last R56 FJCW’s, I have to say that on first appearance I’m now glad I bought another R56. I think the new car looks quite bloated now when compared to the R56 and older MINI’s. Also for the parents out there, I’ve noticed a redesign of the seat buckle placements in the rear seats of the F56. In the R56 my kids find it very easy to belt up by themselves when sitting in booster seats because the buckles are in the raised centre of the seat. I can see some issues for them in a F56! I also can’t say I’m a fan of the new JCW body kit either – I’m thinking the final R56 JCW aero kit is the best yet on a MINI. I’m also thinking that R56 cooper s and jcw’s will hold their values pretty well now hey??

Back when the R56 came out it compared badly, at least in terms of design, to the outgoing R50/53. Now that the F56 is out, and looking even worse, the R56 is now elevated to “not so bad”. See makes perfect sense :)

Oh…’tel yah I love my 2007 MCS and 2009 JCW. R56 wins hands down buddy boy by simply looking at it. F56 sorry…that’s why it start with an “F”.(just kidding)

Looks good to me. All MINIs have always had that look that grows on you over time. I tell you what, I am going to be one of the first in my area to put an order through on a new F56 JCW. Its too bad I have to wait a year for that time to come.

A bumper INSIDE the radiator grille? It even sounds stupid. In my opinion this is the ugliest Mini ever, “bravo” to the designers. I hoped to see improvements with the aero JCW kit, a cleaner design… well, it’s even more cahotic and bulky. Incredible.

much better.

Oh for crying out loud, they made the fish mouth even bigger.

really… exagerate much? let’s keep it real

The JCW lower intake is larger than the standard S. What part of that is an exaggeration? I was voicing my displeasure.

He did. As in, it’s real… ugly.

Are those the 19″ wheels from the Countryman JCW?

SIMPLE, CLEAN, BOLD. That’s all your need MINI, stop over designing!

I’ve had enough. WHO THE FUCK DESIGNS THESE THINGS?! Lose the fogs and run giant aero just like the M3 and M5 and voila! It will look badass and flow much better!

Keep it PG13 please.

Apologies!

Apparently as a child the front-end designer was struck by an Abarth 850TC.

rear bumper nice enough, front, ugh…

Who designed this?

The cooper actually looks decent and put together, that would be the one to get

The S has a hideous lower grille and the back bumper looks like it was glued onto the cooper bumper.

This JCW one takes what made the S bad and turns it up to 11, it looks terrible

I think the aero business will be booming with the release of this hideous ape. Don’t get me wrong! I think the car will be a major step up, but whoever designed the front really did that on a Sunday after a bad night filled with cheap tequila and gin.

The looks rock. The lower side ridge is killer.
That door is way better now. The front is busy but OK. The rear does look a little glued on but better than most cars. Who looks at the back?

“Who looks at the back?”

If you’re going fast enough, lots of people. ;-)

Do these pictures confirm that Chili Red will be a JCW exclusive?

Pontiac Aztek, Honda Element, Porsche Panamera, Toyota Prius, 2014 MINI Cooper S JCW Aero Kit. I think you know what I mean by this.

No clue what you mean. I love my Honda Element.

I agree. The Honda Element is pretty cool, even though I liked the original version with the contrasting bumpers better. Seems they dumbed down the design a bit the last few years.

I’m not alone in implying that the Element is ugly, the Element is on most “ugliest cars” lists.
Honda Element and Panamera are good looking cars :-)

There’s a “lipstick on a pig…” joke in here somewhere.

Except it quit being funny about 9 years ago.

Clearly FIAT put a mole inside BMW and they ended up running design for MINI. So much for my hope that the JCW would be a band-aid for the S looks. I don’t care if this thing has 400hp.
Don’t get the Fiat comment. The 500 is a pretty cohesive design-unlike the new MINI.

It is? Fiat us is just about as ugly as it gets. Let J Lo have it, especially the rag top!!!!!!

I agree with you! It was a bad joke. I was saying that FIAT got in control of Mini’s design team to destroy the Mini this way people might actually look at a Fiat instead. If the Abarth wasn’t such a crappy toy to drive it would be next on my list. It looks and sounds beautiful!

GP2 not go2:)

Same here, full JCW with same mods. I’ll be buying a first generation GP before going anywhere near this thing.

Can’t fire the designer, he just got promoted to Design Director for Rolls Royce…. he also designed the Z3 Coupe, and the Paceman, two of the ugliest cars ever to come out of Munich’s Design Studios. I see a golden opportunity for after-market parts people!

Just judging by the comments the F56 seems to be getting a warmer reception.

Much warmer, actually.

The R56 haters were many. And the Clubman haters. And the Countryman haters. On and on.

Amen. This is the truth. I work for MINI and sell them and can not wait to get my hands on this new car. It looks more like an original than any of the other have. Lots of cars have this big grill going on right now. Such as Audi.

So you’re telling that Mini copies Audi ?
Better buy the orignal !!

Too bad the MINI designers failed to execute the Audi look …

I am with you 110%! The design is so hideous and out of proportion especially the cockpit 🙁 I am disappointed with BMW management & designers. I will be surprised if it sells well……I am keeping my R56.

Does anybody know when JCW F56 starts to sale?

In about a year. We’ll be reporting more about the new JCW this week.

Firstly, thank you motoringfile for the best coverage of the new F56 on the net!
Looks much better. Now can smyo e tell me why this couldn’t have been the stock Mini design?

that is horrendous

By comparison, my 2012 R59 Roadster looks better all the time.

Wings west called….they want there body kit back…. MINI WTFFFFFFF

what are they smoking?!…Holy smoke wtf!!!!! At last now i know i’ll have keep my 2009 JCW longer.

For all you idiots, same shit your comment was about R56 beeing presented. Now you hate F56 and suddenly love R56. What´s the Problem???

Back when the R56 came out it compared badly, at least in terms of design, to the outgoing R50/53. Now that the F56 is out, and looking even worse, the R56 is now elevated to “not so bad”. See makes perfect sense :)

Oh…’tel yah I love my 2007 MCS and 2009 JCW. R56 wins hands down buddy boy by simply looking at it. F56 sorry…that’s why it start with an “F”.(just kidding)

I think we now know what the “F” stands for.
