MINI USA sales are down 16.3% for January, off almost 500 vehicles from the same month a year ago. Interestingly the breakdown in models shows the Countryman (mislabeled in the chart below) down 41.3% from last year. That’s a staggering 614 vehicles. Why is MINI’s number one seller down so much when the four door hatch was up 28% and the Clubman down only 14%? We’re trying to find some answers but so far it’s unclear to us.
MINI USA Sales – Pre-owned

Total MINI Pre-Owned sold 2,035 vehicles, a decrease of .2 percent from January 2018.

This has been up for 24 hrs. and Nick Dawson has not commented :)

A thousand apologies for my delay in commenting on MINI USA Sales in January. In mitigation, we are spending the winter months at our tropical retreat 5.4°N of the equator, on Penang Island in Malaysia, and have just returned from an incredibly relaxing trip ‘outstation’ to one of the less populated and less developed parts of Peninsular Malaysia.

U.S. light-vehicle sales dropped 1 percent in January, with higher fleet shipments offsetting lower retail volume, as the government shutdown and severe cold that blasted the Midwest this week dampened consumer demand. Cars remain a weak spot across the industry, falling 4 percent last month. Automotive News has the full story.
