New (Black) MINI Wheels for 2009

BMW will be offering a collection of new black wheel options for all MINIs as of March production. The wheels will be finished in gloss black and will be offered as a factory option.

In the US market the R55, R56 and R57 we will get a black (option code 2RV) version of the 16″ Bridge Spoke and a 17″ Crown Spoke as no-cost options. MINI will also offer a gloss black version of the 17″ Web Spoke wheel as a stand alone option or as an pricier alternative within the Sport Package on S models. The silver version will also still be available.

However the most interesting of all the new offerings will be an exclusive to the R57. The MINI convertible will get the new black Bullet Spoke two-tone wheel as either a stand alone option or as a choice with the Sport Package for the S model.

Darn it! The good stuff always becomes available after one gets their MINI delivered. (Waaaaaaa)

I may go this route if these black rims prove to hide brake dust pad better. but some people say that black dust looks even worse on black rims.

how good would those bullet wheels look with a body coloured pinstripe? I can’t wait to see the R57 in person with those wheels.

What about us white rim fans? Can we ever have more than just a few options?

(I still mourn the loss of the 5 hole rims. I wish they had them for the MCS when I bought my MINI.

Damn, I would have gotten black when I got my car..

Nice and long overdue. Personally, I only like black wheels if they are surrounded by a silver lip. Otherwise you can’t see then apart from the tire and IMO look…bad.

The bullet wheels are great with the trim around the wheel and on the cross section. I have silver bullets but would have opted for these in a second.

Very cool…

If all goes well with our first MINI… Oxygen Blue with White Roof/Mirrors/Stripes/Wheels… maybe we’ll have a similar Cooper S or JCW in a couple years with Black roof/mirrors/stripes/wheels.

Another excellent Youification option from MINI!

Never have been a fan of gloss black wheels, think the matte black with a polished rim are pretty nice looking though. Wonder how long until the first set go on a R56.

Damn, I just got my 16″ Bridge Spokes powder coated black last week before they went on for the winter. They look great though and glad MINI is doing this.

Not on the car but for those interested in a closer view than the provided photos (of course, there are tons of ppl on NAM who do this already and you can dig up photos of the wheels on the car): http://www.flickr.com/photos/jratlee/3103023340/

Suddenly my black wheels seem much less cool…

Is this a harbinger of the blacked-out trim option coming later in this model year?

GregW Dec 16th, 2008 Link

Black is the new silver. This will be great for owners who never clean black brake dust off their alloys. Perhaps we then could have white pads to show the wheels need cleaning. But why stop at black? Why not have yellow wheels on a convertible like Noddy’s car [Noddy - childrens books written by Enid Blyton].

After a bunch of cost-cutting news, this is refreshing! Props to MINI for keeping the spirit alive.

Now go and make nicer 16″ rim size designs. I would love to see a return of the old 16″ 5 star rims that once dressed up the R50 Cooper from factory.
