Now that the Frankfurt Autoshow is over I thought it approrpiate to take a quick look at what others are saying about the new MINI Concept around the web:

I didn’t even notice before… bucket seats in the back! What do you think the odds are of that making it into production?

Still not sure of the front of the car and dash design but will wait until LA Auto show when I see it in person.

Now about the wheels? They sort of look like the hub cap of a 1967 Ford Galaxie.

The rest of the car has some very nice well thought out and designed ergonomics.

But as was stated by BMW it’s just a concept.

At this point it’s unlikely that the car will be coming to the US autoshow circuit. If it does it’ll most likely just be Detroit (as with most BMW concepts)

Have you seen under the hood? It looks like it’s got electric engine. I know it doesn’t, just looks so clean. Click on MINI Four Door Pullman link.

Is it true that the nex gen mini is going to lose it’s multilink rear suspension and goto a much more primitive suspension design for more space?

I know this is off topic but no one has really talked about this issue, but I’m glad I decided to get an ’06.

Your right… it doesn’t even look electric… looks nuclear! Or maybe it runs telepathically? If only all engine bays could look so clean.

That was a rumor from 2-3 years back that seems to be pretty much unfounded.

I didn’t even notice before… bucket seats in the back! What do you think the odds are of that making it into production?

The Mazda RX-8 made it to production with its suicide doors and rear bucket seats, so it’s possible. I wonder how much adjustment those rear seats have – i/e how far they can be reclined or moved raised/lowered. With the extra leg room, if the seats would recline adequately, the Traveler wouldn’t be a bad way to, well…travel – even in the back seats.

How sure are we about this? I’d thought it was a done deal…?

It’s never been a done deal in the least. In fact the one shot of the underside of a recent prototype would indicate that it’s staying.

It’s never been a done deal and there’s never been a reliable report from anyone that BMW was even thinking about it. Just rumor. In fact the one shot of the underside of a recent prototype would indicate that it’s staying.

I seem to recall reading that the nose on this thing is supposed to give a very good indication of what the ’07 is going to look like. Something to do with the new ‘pedestrian safety’ regs in Europe (here’s an idea, don’t walk in the road!)…I know that is the reason for many other cars having the higher front (provide crumple space between the surface of the car and the hard bits below the bonnet).

Anybody have anything more definitive on how much (and what parts) of the styling of this foreshadow the ’07 Mini?

You’ll want to first check out our article “The Next Generation Revealed“. Then wait for two new MotoringFile articles on this very subject over the next two days.

Well that sucks! We have more cars here in LA, my dailey commute can attest to that, so why would they not bring it here. Art Center and all.

The LA Autoshow just isn’t as important as Detroit in terms of the industry and it’s not as well attended as Detroit or even Chicago (which last year was actually the biggest in terms of attendance and size in the US).

Boy it sure seemed busy to me. I also think there is probably more MINI owners in Ca or maybe Florida. But I’m sure you would know that. How can it not be important as I sure hear of a lot of auto-suit-types at Art Center form alumni and students.

I don’t disagree with you. It should definitely come to the US and hit all three or four big auto shows as far as I’m concerned. But last heard there weren’t any plans for this.

Seems to me, but then I like eggs, that if ya gonna ship it anyway then what da …. send it here.

Not saying you disagreed just putting it on your site so maybe it might be seen by some BMW/MINI person and they might think about.

HEY….BMW/MINI………..there is another coast with loads of MINI owners and one of the biggest MINI clubs…SCMM… in the world. The last I heard there were some 500+ members.

I think that DB guy can attest to that.

I sure hope the final wagon has more door to body clearance than pictured. If a large person tried to enter might be a problem.

This is a little sumin summin I found in the archive. Just some things that came true, and others that happened with a twist. And others that never did. enjoy
