…the frist set of billboards were,”O.K.”;however,the best set of billboards are in,”Part 11.” The,”man jumping from the window washing platform to the MCC in the ad”;plus, the,”cops hide here”,with the picture of the MINI is what made MINI one of the coolest ad series around. The third one is orginal;yet, the vibe was killed off because the MINI and the,”driver” was not secured properly. All and all…a hell of a lot better than any American Car Ad that’s out today.
There is an excellent billboard up in Columbus, OH. A MINI is mounted on the side of a building being pulled back in a gigantic slingshot. The caption: “David won”. It’s been there for a few years and is in danger of being removed due to some obscure federal law concerning the size of roadside advertising.
There was a cool billboard of a vending machine loaded up with MINI’s on the side of a building in San Francisco last fall.
Didn’t have a camera at the time though.
Good to see little old New Zealand rates with a billboard. This was intended for the 2005 Rugby Union series between the NZ All Blacks and the touring British Lions (England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland) team – hence the Union Jack flag roof.
There was a hilarious one over here in Holland a few years back. You have to know the story behind it, though.
At the time, there was some bickering about an enormous billboard along one of the major motorways in Holland. It was for an adult website or phoneline or whatever. The tagline was (loosely translated) “Do you want to know how I ride?”, with various bits and pieces of the female form scattered across the billboard.
Anyway, the board was considered too explicit, after it had been there for quite some time (dunno, someone who had a say about it had had a bad day or something), and it was removed by the authorities. Days later, there was a new billboard there. Tagline? “Do you want to know how I ride?”. Bumpers and headlights all in the same places, but this time taken off… a Mini 🙂
Thanks Gabe, funny.
I’m pretty sure that the Palm trees were in Irwindale, Ca. I had always wanted to take the shot but was too busy or forgot my camera.

Big thanks to RB for the pic!

Great galleries! The link on the second page of Billboards to the magazine ads is awesome, too.

There are a lot more examples to see in the latest issue of CA Magazine.

I saw a link on their to another sign… above a urinal (of all places) with a MINI… http://billboardom.blogspot.com/2005/10/bathroom-poster-for-mini.html funny how much originally and humor MINI manages to put into their advertizing.
