MINI USA is finally releasing the pricing changes we reported this past November. There should be no surprises for most MF readers as everything is in line with what was reported. Here’s the full release from MINI USA:
MINI USA will make adjustments to the base price of its models effective March 1, 2006. The base price of the MINI Cooper hardtop, the MINI Cooper Convertible and the MINI Cooper S Convertible models increase by $500. The MINI Cooper S hardtop base price increases by $300. All 2006 MINI options and package pricing remain unchanged.
2006 MINI Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices – Effective March 1st, 2006:
* MINI Cooper hardtop: $18,000
* MINI Cooper S hardtop: $21.450
* MINI Cooper Convertible: $22,500
* MINI Cooper S Convertible: $25,950All prices above include a $550 Destination and Handling charge.
As we said in November, it’s our understanding that these changes will only affect cars wholesaled on or after March 1st. To understand what may or may not fall into that category be sure to contact your MINI dealer.
Some perspective…
My 2002 MCS cost $24,200.00 (paint/PP/SP/CW/Leather)
To buy an equally equipted car… in 2006
Price is: $26,300.00.
Reasonable if ya ask me,… 5 years …down the road 🙂
(PS… I opted out of the leather this time :)…but added a few more goodies…check out the page if ya’d like 2 )
Peace,
D
Wow. I think I’ll be heading down to the US if I’m going to buy another MINI. Gabe, can I crash in your basement for a few days? 🙂
In Canada, an S lists for $30,600 Canadian plus freight and PDI, which is about $26,750 US. Although I’m not exactly sure if the cars are configured the same in each country, I am positively sure that our cool Canadian floor mats aren’t worth 5 grand.
Tim,
There are some options available in Canada that are not available in the USA, other than the floor mats… the heated windshield comes to mind.
Don’t forget xenon headlights are standard in Canada.
Not sure if there is $5k worth of extras though.
If you are from Canada (or any other country for that matter) you can forget about buying a MINI in the US. As part of their franchise agreement, dealers are not allowed to sell for purposes of export.
I just ordered my mini. Dealer said that price would be increased by $500, but invoice faxed to me (which I initialed and sent back) had old price. We’ll see what happens.
Canadian freight is $1395 that means $32,000 CND or…
$28,000 USD versus USA $21,450
USA customers get free maintenance with the warranty – Canadians don’t. That’s worth a grand…
Canadians get to pay about 15% sales tax (except those happy Albertans.
I love the heated windshield option as much as the next guy (that’s a winner when it cracks btw) but Canadians are being screwed – – and that’s not a reference to our S&M MINI.ca website…
Enrique, you’re right in all your points. If the dollar keeps rising against the U.S. dollar it becomes more and more attractive. CraigE might be right regarding exporting MINIs. I don’t remember signing anything saying I wasn’t going to export mine when I bought it, however. I’ll examine the issue when I’m closer to making a purchase.
