The car hasn’t even been publicly shown yet and we’ve already got more on the MINI Concept Geneva. This time it’s official video footage that does a much better job than pictures in giving you a sense of the size of features on the concept. You can check it out below:
Windows Media: The Boot (2MB) / The Exterior (4.7MB) / The Interior (4.7MB)
Those wheels look great close up. From far away, though, they look somewhat “flowery,” for lack of a better word. Overall, I think this (and the previous iterations of the concept) has a lot of visual mass that makes me think “clunky” rather than “tossable.”
John
I hope “concept” is just that. The front end charm has gotten lost with those headlights.
i have to say that there are a lot of features on these concepts that i love. that being said, there are some that i hate. it will be interesting to see how these concepts evolve into reality.
COOL! Get rid of the Flower Power wheels and put the one on the roof on the car. I like extra gauges. Obviously, there are a lot of features that are showcar only, like the spinning center pod and the moving headlight covers. However, I do overall like it. Especially the side indicator marker area.
Does it come AWD?
GMG
I have to say, the side boxes would have to go. They would limit visibility on the road, (when idiots “park” on your quarter panel).
The concept seems to be shown at a Rally type car and not one for everyday highway driving, (stuff like the tilt meter and stopwatche mounted on the steerling wheel).
There are many “Cool” featres like the lights in the door panel that will never see the production floor.
remembering that this is just a concept, another interesting item is the tool chest inside and the fact that it rolls from the front to the back. i wonder if this would be heavy enough to make a difference in the center of gravity for car and make it perform differently in different environments. not really applicable for day to day use, but for those who are actual rallye competitors.
hehe … the vent trim/cup holder is pure genius.
this HAS to make it into production.
those wheels remind me of those Beetle wheels, the ones Tire Rack used to carry, that looked like a flower …
That photo at the top makes me think “what a load of crap! (literally)”.
seriously so much junk packed into a little car. not sporty, as said above. Definitely clunky.
I really like the color scheme, tho.
I think the concept looks good after seeing those videos, before it was just ok to me. If they really go with this concept and make it production, keep those interior and exterior innovation, except the traveller options, put back two rear seats, I definitely consider this my next car. 🙂
It seems to me that Mini have got loads of great new ideas for the second generation Mini – I love this concept and I hope they carry the majority of the ideas through into the production car.
I also love the colour – white is the new silver!
It’s really not working for me. There are some nice touches like the vent trim/cup holder, the flip screen GPS/gauge and the variety of other gauges, but as concept I am underwhelmed.
I really like those Classic Minis in the Exterior clip, though.
What’s with the flipping Speedo in the Center?
I agree with other comments, those back panels better have a window option. I thought there was limited visibility on my ’05 Vert. OMG, I can’t imagine a longer MINI with no visibility in the rear.
The rally lights look wicked! I guess with these you won’t get deal comments about having too many lights blocking air flow to your engine.
Does anyone know why ONE spoke out of all the wheels is red? See the driver’s rear wheel… I kept looking for the answer in the press releases… anyone?
For some reason I can’t see the video
only giberish…..

Charles
These videos have really brought this concept to life for me. Like others, I was staring to get jaded by all the Traveller concepts but seeing the fantastic design details in action on video has given me a new appreciation for it.
The Geneva concept in particular seems to have been put together with a lot of affection for all the details that make a MINI a MINI — and that still give me a buzz every time I drive my car.
And what’s not to like about the references to MINI’s racing heritage? Surely the performance purists wouldn’t turn up their noses at having this baby as a support car for their track days?
Ah geeze, another windows media file.
Yeah sorry about that. We didn’t have a choice with this one.
I can’t even play it with Flip4Mac.
I would love to see it.
could anyone help?
regards,
Charles
Really? It works on my Powerbook running 10.4.5 and Flip4Mac. You may want to just try VLC is everything else fails.
I was watching the Interior video when I looked away for a moment. When I looked back it was at 0:46, and I did a double take. I thought I was looking at a toilet with a red seat! Surely I’m not the only one who had this thought…
Wow are the video’s great! I can’t believe how many trick functional items they have on that car! Will the sliding headlight cover make it to market? If they could paint those to match the body color they may have something there. Lots of cool touches bravo!
Sliding headlight covers would be a good thing? I couldn’t help but think of an ’84 Vette at night with one headlamp stuck halfway retracted with the other on high beams to compensate. It seems to me like just a useless gadget that would be cool only as long as it still functioned.
For Charles J. Rivera: Video plays ok on my PB. 10.4.5 with Flip4Mac. Post more details about your set up, or try creating a new user account with F4M installed, and test playback from there. That will eliminate any interference.
Hi guys
I have 10.4.1
I can’t upgrade as of yet to 10.4.5
since ProTools (main used software)
do not play good with anything above 10.4.1
is there any other way?
I have F4M and when I try to download link file
it just downloads a lot of crap
I’m dying to see this videos
Charles
I had a ’94 Ford Probe GT with pop-up headlights I had the car for 10 years and never had a problem with them even thru the Ohio winters. It looks like Mini concept has the sliding headlight covers under “glass” so less chance of them getting gunked up or frozen I would think. I’ve never seen anything like that, I still say it would be an original. Agreed though it’s definitely only cool if/when it works! 🙂
Hey Charles…did you try creating a new user account? That’s a good test to see if it has anything to do with other plugins getting in the way. Only install Flip4Mac on the new acct. Let us know if it works.
The videos “just work” on my Windows PC… (Sorry, I had to 😉 )
Anyhow. I like those headlight covers when they are opening, but seeing them closed didn’t really get me. Maybe in a body color that would be different.
The toggles for the headliner are really cool, and I like the drink holders and door lighting as well (I may do a custom mod for door lighting now…). My favorite though will probably not be in production anytime soon, and that’s the floating seats.
Hey – they work on everybody’s mac too (except for Charles 🙂 )
Rub it in Gabe….(sarcastic) lol!
