While Dave will probably be posting a bit more on the recent (and untimely) death of several MINI colors, I thought I’d make a special mention on Liquid Yellow. As we reported last December, Liquid Yellow, Solar Red, and Purple Haze (Black Eye Purple outside the US) ended production last Sunday April 30th. And while the other two colors certainly had their fans, Liquid Yellow has been with the MINI since the beginning of production in mid-2001. So with that I say, let’s raise a glass to Liquid Yellow. May it go on to find Indi Blue and Jet Black in that great color palette in the sky…
Can anyone else imagine Gabe dancing in a circle around a fire singing “Ding-Dong the witch is dead!” from the Wizard of Oz?

I know many have said they disliked that color but I personally like it very much. Maybe there will be another yellow down the line.

That MINI belongs Eamon, a NorCal MINI owner. I photographed it at AMVIV in 2005. There are <a href="http://www.motoringphotography.com/eamon/" rel="nofollow">more photos here</a>.
Maybe, just maybe, that’ll increase the value of those cars with LY. It can now be listed as “limited edition” color upon resale. Hehe.
They need to add some color to the line up… Too many shades and not enough color.

Blue Violet
Royal Blue
I’m pouring a 40 for liquid yellow right now…. Long live Dark Silver!
I’m in favor of a new yellow along the lines of Ferrari’s Fly Yellow. I thought the LY was bit too pale, but it was still a good color for MINIs.

Actually, in the US it’s called Purple Haze, in the UK/Rest of the World it’s known as Black Eyed Purple.
Solar Red was the closest thing to a Candy-Apple Red, and it’s life was way too short. Had it been available in an MCS, I would probably have traded in my ’05.
I hope misfortune never causes me to need a repaint, but if it ever does, a metalic Candy Apple red, ca. the early ’60s chevys would be my choice.

Not quite as ‘limited’ as Velvet Red (VR) or Silk Green (SG). Neither of those made it past ’03!

This may be the wrong thread to try this but, any fans or thoughts on Hyper Blue out there? I can’t decide whether to select it for my ’06 MC or wait for one of the ’07 blues. Thanks ahead for any thoughts!
LY was my 2nd favorite color. May it RIP. Hopefully the new yellow won’t be too mellow & will honor it’s memory appropriately ; )
Indi blue was by far my favorite. Hyper blue , to put it nicely, I am not a fan. I agree, with Chainsaw Flowerchild (funny name BTW;))

I personally found the LY a but tooo pale of a yellow.
Good riddence to the LY.
I’m driving a yellow Cooper with black roof. But I must say that it’s a bit washed out – if youre gonna re-introduce a yellow, then make it bolder.
Don’t fall into the BMW trap of silvers, and sedate colours – MINI is FUN so make it in FUN colors.

I’ve never been a fan of LY… but, your car is HOT!!! Are those the web spokes? Have you experienced any of the “clicking” problems many have complained about?
I’m with Chainsaw. The fun colors are part of what attracted me to the mini. Don’t let them go away for a string of sedate greys, even if the greys sell better.

That’s actually not Dave’s car. That’s just a pic he took. He posted it because there this misconception that I don’t like LY and hate painted arches. Okay… the latter is true.

As for LY, I’m sad to see it go. For me, it was one of the standards of the ‘new’ MINI!
We got a mini in LY and we like it very much,it,s more different than what you see by other cars
