MotoringFile reader Jeff Steele has taken some great shots from today’s North American MINI Cooper Championship race today at Summit Point Raceway. Randy Webb won the first race, and would have won the second but had to drop out due to fuel problems. In fact he barely made the start of the first race because of a power steering problem. He was fixing the car up to the last minute! We’ll have a full race recap soon. However until then you can see the photos here.
It was a beautiful day for a race and a lot of fun just to hang out and watch. Here are some more pictures:

Congratulations, Randy!
To all those naysayers that think you can’t win a race with a MCS that has a sunroof (because it’s too heavy is the whining that is commonly heard), I think the pictures are proof that you can.
It’s not about the weight of the car, but the person driving the car.
Only a poor carpenter blames his/her tools.
Why are so many of the photos photoshopped? Headlights, sunroof etc? I’M CONFUSED!
lol…nice badburro. But i think you are forgetting one thing- About the only things left on Randy’s car that is Mini is probably the shell of the car and the short block case. 😉 But awesome race indeed- congrats Randy (on the first race anyway)..second race, I don’t know what happened- Was it Randy that ran out of gas? I didn’t quite get the final word there.
I was there yesterday. What an awesome day it was! Thanks to Mark (my instructor and race driver) for teaching me the quickest way around the track…and to Phil Wicks who did a terrific job of making the day a pleasant one. If you haven’t been to one of his events, I highly recommend it. Happy Motoring!
OK, seriously, how do people get back and have their pictures posted the same day as the event? Holy cow man, by the time we got outta there and home it was late, and more importantly we were dead tired!
Great pictures, Carol and I will try to get some of ours up on Flickr too. The day was tremendous fun, I also highly recommend it to anyone interested in Phil’s remaining events this year (Kershaw SC in September, or Buttonwillow CA in October).
A special thanks to Dave Kimble, a super guy and a great instructor. And thanks to all the racers, who obviously all participate for the love of it, but you guys all make the day even more exciting.

Not that I don’t agree that one could still do well with a sunroof, but Randy has a metal panel mounted in place of his sunroof. Did any of the other racers have sunroofs? I honestly am not certain.

I don’t have any pics posted yet, but it’s not too hard as Summit Point is only about an hour away from home. I’ll have to post my pics somewhere at some point, maybe some video clips too.</blockquote>

Randy did not run out of fuel in the second race but was having fuel flow problems so it was acting like it was out of fuel.
Brian, on the other hand, did run out of fuel which is why he came into the pits before the end of the race.
As for Randy’s car, there is no longer a sunroof but a cover where the sunroof used to be and there are also no headlights but metal plates where the headlights used to be. No Photoshopping here just highly modified (lightened) cars.
