Last January we gave new of MINI’s seven new colors for 2007. Then a few months back we showed you both Nightfire Red and Laser Blue for the first time. Now we’re ready to break the news on the final and confirmed US market non-metallic color line-up for the R56 MINI. Here’s the all too short list:
– Chili Red (Unchanged)
– Mellow Yellow
– Pepper White (Unchanged)
– Oxygen blue (MC only)
So that means officially no non-metallic black and no non-metallic BRG.
Over on the metallic side things get a little more cloudy. We really don’t have any new information to share but we can sum up what we know. Keep in mind this is not the full list of metallic colors, just what has been confirmed.
– Nightfire Red (MC only)
– Laser Blue (MCS Only)
– Sparkling Silver (courtesy of MINI2)
– Lightning Blue
– British Racing Green (Unchanged)
– Pure Silver (Unchanged)
Updated: We’ve just confirmed another metallic color (drum roll please)…
– Dark Silver (Unchanged)
Update #2: We will have news on the final 2007 color Monday.
Lack of black is going to disappoint many…
CINIMIN
And no Dark Silver either ?
That’s all there is—10 colors in all ?
Sparkling Silver. . . I’m guessing a “champagne” color?
>Sparkling Silver. . . I’m guessing a “champagne†color?
MINI2 has a good photos of it here
Sparkling Silver is a ‘champagne’ like color. It’s a pretty good color… ON A MERCEDES!!!
Come on MINI! Where are the vibrant colors to match the vibrant personality of the cars (and the owners)?
I’m sure astro black and dark silver will return, they are just not officially confirmed. I think I remember that there will be 12 colors for the ’07 MINIs.
the lack of a real BRG continues to be a bummer
I really like the new Mellow Yellow color. Seems the right hue, unlike Liquid Yellow which had a tendency to look very pale under most lighting conditions.
I am surprised that BRG survived as is onto the R56.
Glad to hear that Chili Red is back. However, I would like to other red hue color options for the MCS beside it.
…hit enter – didn’t finish!
the sparkling silver isn’t bad – just not very…i don’t knw, MINI? Of course, i drive a RG….who knows! I bet MINI did research to come up with the color offerings, and while not as fun as well all like, you know damn well they are going to paint thier cars colors that they think people are going to buy
no disrespect to Hot Orange, but i would LOVE to see a solid orange that was the the equal to Chili red. A strong, vibrant orange. Of course, i bet a lot of folks wouldn’t buy it…oh well!
we’re still missing two colors (BMW says …12 colors)
Agreed. We’re missing one of the new colors yet. 🙂
New
1. Mellow Yellow
2. Oxygen blue
3. Nightfire Red
4. Laser Blue
5. Sparkling Silver
6. Lightning Blue
Unchanged
7. Chili Red
8. Pepper White
9. British Racing Green
10. Pure Silver
11. Dark Silver

Come on MINI! Where are the vibrant colors to match the vibrant personality of the cars (and the owners)?

LOL! This coming from the owner of Jango, the coolest of white PW/PW/PW MINIs. 😉
Last nite I went to MINIUSA to look at the colours. Gad what a dreary selection. At least these added colours will pep up the line up.

Come on MINI! Where are the vibrant colors to match the vibrant personality of the cars (and the owners)?

I suppose this means you won’t be joining my campaign for Non-Metallic Brown (NMB) to be the seventh color.
What is so freaking hard about doing a decent non-metallic BRG!
“I suppose this means you won’t be joining my campaign for Non-Metallic Brown (NMB) to be the seventh color.”
(shudder)
Does the palette really need 3 silvers? The yellow is nice.
where is black – or metallic black ?
And what about the roof colors: black/white/silver???
Uh excuse my ignorance but why is ‘Hyper Blue’ not on the list when it’s in the sample picture next to Laser Blue?
>Uh excuse my ignorance but why is ‘Hyper Blue’ not on the list when it’s in the sample picture next to Laser Blue?
That image was one we posted a few months back comparing some of the current colors to two 2007 colors. It does not mean Hyper Blue will be available in 2007.
What?!?!? No Royal Grey
I would love to see a bright green (grass stain) color, either metallic or non-metallic. It does not really matter which as I think it will still look nice.
How many of those colours are non-metallic? All I see is Chili Red & Pepper White. Guess its more cash in BMW’s pocket if most colours are an extra cost metallic.
“Non-Metallic Brown (NMB)”… LOL I’d have to get the license plate, LIL 5H1T.
For any doubters, just imagine Non-Metallic Brown with a Silver Roof and Silver Stripes.
Well I’m glad my Astro Black is gone…a one year run on the color makes me feel better as having something a bit more rare. But come on MINI..where the heck are the COLORS? Get rid of that pepper white already and make a grand prix white. Get a new Black in there. How about Lime green, or bright orange as some options. I thought they wanted to sell cars? :^/
>Well I’m glad my Astro Black is gone…a one year run on the color makes me feel better as having something a bit more rare.
Actually it was around for several years. It just wasn’t very popular during the years Jet Black was around.
Another year without black…another year that my MINI is irreplacable!
Silver looks like – well a Mercedes color
Gold looks like a Honda (gasp!) color
I’ll be the first to go on the record predicting that Sparkling Silver will be discontinued after one year or less.
I don’t see many orders for it, unless you WANT your MINI to match your Chevy Silverado.
I have a hard time believing there wont be a black to choose from.
astro black has been around for years but only one year for the MCS!!!
fingers crossed for bright green…
I really hope there will be a (REAL) black to choose from! Astro Black is really just dark blue. I guess Ill have to take my 07 Mini to a paint shop to make it look Darth Vader-ish. Matte Black on 07 Mini = SEXY…
Indigo Blue! Indigo Blue! Indigo Blue! Indigo Blue!
So . . . Space Blue is history? If so, that would be a one year run on that color.
Oh man, no Hyper Blue! I might want to keep my ’05 now, and mourn the lack of HB by painting my wheel arches.

I really hope there will be a (REAL) black to choose from! Astro Black is really just dark blue. I guess Ill have to take my 07 Mini to a paint shop to make it look Darth Vader-ish. Matte Black on 07 Mini = SEXY…

I guess if all else fails you could pick up one of the test mules…
I love my Astro Black but I agree – on most days it is a dark dark blue. Anyone else think Mellow Yellow looks a little ‘school bus yellow’ ?
Ok, I’ll jump on the Non’Metallic Brown bandwagon. I gotta say, that would be insanely stylish. C’mon MINI! Give us a true NMB!
Gabe – Actually it was around for several years. It just wasn’t very popular during the years Jet Black was around.
Sorry Gabe…not in the ‘S’ package it wasn’t =P
Oh joy, yet another silver and a Yellow for people who want to drive a banana.
Why not a decent green or godforbid letting the MCS use the new red – the only decent new colour offered.
So much for listening to customers.

So . . . Space Blue is history? If so, that would be a one year run on that color.

That make mine a collectors item. hehe
Solar red is also a one year color.
>Sorry Gabe…not in the ‘S’ package it wasn’t =P
I guess I don’t discriminate.
what no pink, the mary kay ladys are gonna be upset
I suppose to us Europeans, the Solar Red, Space Blue and Royal Grey being discontinued is not such a surprise, as they are much more closely linked to the Seven, Checkmate and Park Lane special editions than in the US. Each of these colors is only available on one of the special editions over here, neither of them is an a la carte pick.
Which is not to say it is a shame, they are all nice colors.
I agree, a non-metalic brown would be a really nice color, especially with sliver bonnet stripes and roof. The problem is the interior as the brown would look weird with the brown.
I would like to see Royal Grey and a Black and I would also consider some type of dark Blue.
BOOOOOOOO!!!! MINI’s color offerings suck in my opinion. For such a cool little car they need to jazz it up a bit on the color front.
Mike

I guess I don’t discriminate.

well buyers do 😉 I wouldn’t have bought a Astro Black one if it only came as a standard MINI =)

…and I bet if Jet black only came on the standard MINI you would have found a different color “S”…I would say you would dicriminate =P
I would like to see the Jet Black and a good white.
Basically the same colors they paint the roof and mirrors – so it should be a slam dunk, right?
Bring back the black withou sucks
Does MINI allow for a customised colour like BMW does with it’s individual range?
Would customers pay a little extra for a non-MINI colour? They would have to limit this because it would clog up the production line paintshop.
Why don’t they ask customers what colours they would like instead of some person making a decision on colour ranges that suit BMW owners more than MINI folk.

I agree, a non-metalic brown would be a really nice color, especially with sliver bonnet stripes and roof. The problem is the interior as the brown would look weird with the brown.

I am sorry but the picture that pops into my head when I think of a non-metallic brown Mini cracks me up. It would look like you were driving around in a little turd LMAO
Mini needs to look at some of the colours offered on the Lotus Elise.
http://www.grouplotus.com/car/car_coloursel.php?id=1
The Lotus Colors are great. MINI should adopt a good chunk of that color pallet.
FWIW, when I first suggested non-metallic brown to Gabe, I was actually kidding around. However, the more I think about it, the more I think it would be a nice addition to the line-up. Someone at MINI seems to think so too
So, tonight I spent a few minutes an came up with a non-metallic brown Concept. The rendering below is a bit lighter than what I had in mind, but it will have to do for now.

The MINI color pallet needs to be expanded. The silver and blue hues have been flogged pretty hard, and it is time for MINI to have some variety. While the new red and yellow are good steps, MINI should not back away from offering the oddball colors (gold?!?!).
While non-metallic brown may not take the world by storm, I would like to believe that at some point MINI will rise to the occasion and dare to be bold with at least 2 or 3 color offerings for the MC and MCS (if it makes them feel more comfortable, the rest of the colors can be shades of silver, blue, with chili red and metallic BRG thrown in because they feel they seem to feel have to offer those colors at this point).
So here’s to a broader color pallet and the oddball colors.
not everything which is yellow is a banana.
Many Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsche are yellow.
The new mellow yellow looks sportier than liquid yellow. The MINI is a small car but also a sportscar. So BMW should offer more “sporty” colors like orange (as metallic very trendy in europe), grass green or a very light nonmetallic blue e.g.
I have to say this, sorry. For all you folks out there whining for more colors, please note that the blue and silver have historically been the most popular- silk green was the first to go as it was not being ordered, then Velvet Red, as it was not popular either. so, I don’t think we can blame MINI for sticking with colors that people seem to order more. Just my humble opinion.
I’m intrigued by this Oxygen Blue color (Cooper only, non-metallic)…hope we can see something on this soon. Gabe, any idea what general realm of the blue spectrum this new color might originate from??? I sense from the name that it will be a light blue???

silk green was the first to go as it was not being ordered, then Velvet Red, as it was not popular either.

silk green (more like soft pee green) was still the wrong green to choose..and velvet red is to dark…they need colors that pop and stand out..i’m fine with still making the blues and silvers..but offer some more for the ones who really want to stand out and have fun!..and not to just blend with the crowd.
Can you get MCS with mellow yellow?
>Gabe, any idea what general realm of the blue spectrum this new color might originate from???
I’m told the word “teal” comes to mind.
>Can you get MCS with mellow yellow?
Yes, as pictured above.
The new yellow looks like all the other car companies.
Yes, Liquid Yellow was lighter than other yellows, but a “truer” yellow. Apply the right polish and you can get the color to deepen. This new yellow is more “canary” with a touch of orange. Ho-hum. Now it will fit in with the Fords and Chevys. And cabs. And construction equipment. If they wanted to change the yellow they could have looked at the older M3 yellow.
Has anyone ever come up with a reasonable explanation as to why they restrict some color choices to MC and some to MCS? All the cars are built at the same plant, presumably going by the same paint lines. Why, in a world that is moving toward increased customization and individualization of products, would a company trying to be a leader in personalization artificially limit choice in such an important factor as the color of the car? It doesn’t make any sense at all to me. I appreciate that MINI can’t offer a spectrum of colors (although I do not understand the facination with 3 different kinds of silver), but with 12 colors, is it that hard to come up with a range of colors applicable to both MC and MCS?
Here’s an idea: You have 12 colors to choose from for the ’08 MINI line. Here’s my initial list.
Non_Metallics
White (not Pepper, but a true White)
Black
Chili Red
School Bus Yellow
BRG
Electric/Oxygen Blue
Metallics
Hyper Blue
Light Silver
Nightfire Red
Grass Stain Green (Could be non metallic too)
Orange
Dark Silver
2 Reds/2 Greens/2 Blues/2 Bloody Silvers/Yellow/Orange/Black/White
What about Hyper blue? That will make 3 blues!
Hyper Blue is dead. Lightning Blue will take its place.
Lightening blue. Is it darker or lighter than hyper blue? Just guessing I am thinking it will be between Hyper Blue and Laser Blue. That will still make 3 blues. Laser, lightening and oxygen. Hopefully one of those will look awesome on the MCS.
I was thinking of waiting for an ’08 JCW. But with Hyper Blue going away I may own my last MINI.
Hyper Blue Lovers
Call 866.ASK.MINI (866.275.6464) and tell them you want them to continue Hyper Blue. I just got off the phone with Ask MINI and the gentleman I spoke to, who owns a Liquid Yellow Cooper, mentioned that customer feedback is what kept Liquid Yellow alive for so long.
We can save Hyper Blue!
man losing a shade of blue for another would stop you from ever buying another MINI? Talk about love of a color!
I don’t mind my Space Blue being a one year run- rarer is cool. 😉
Would love to see a really nice burnt orange. Might have gotten an orange if they offered it with the MCS insted of only the MCSc.
good morning MF, it’s 8:25 in Central Europe (02:25 EDT NY) and I’m waiting strained for the last color…and pictures!! 🙂
So they leave a foul, nasty, uninspired hue (Pepper White…errr, BEIGE) but still can’t offer us the option of a PROPER British Racing Green?!!? Can they just not figure out how to mix the stuff or what?? Disgusting.
