We’ve got a fairly rare MINI accessory for this week’s MotoringFile DIY Friday. Most of us know about the optional (standard on the Convertible) rear Parking Distance system. However very few out there probably know that MINI has a front parking distance system as well. It was planned early on in the car’s lifecycle however we’ve never seen any official mention of it until this PDF. It’s perfect for those of us who live in large cities that demand absolute parking precision.

On my dealer’s website (prestigemini.com), on the service page, there was a picture of a Pepper White Cooper with the front sensor.
I take it this is for peep that can’t see over the bonnet?
Ok – this is the mysterious Front Parking Distance post that appears and disappears. I’ve got a screen shot this time – no more cover ups!
Interesting… so far I’ve determined that it’s definitely not available from US dealerships (yet anyway) – I called and the part number doesn’t even show up in their database.
It -might- be available from Euro sources (such as NewMINIStuff).
Another interesting note – the two sensors are mounted to the front license plate holder… in the PDF, specifically the Euro license plate holder. I wonder if it can be easily adapted to mount to the USA license plate holder?
Interesting retrofit anyway. If it IS available from a Euro source, I wonder how much it is…
