Over the last few weeks we’ve had a number of requests from readers for details on when the MINI Clubman will be available. When to expect it to start production, when will we see a public debut, and when can we buy it. Even though we’ve answered most of these questions before, we figured it would be best to create one dedicated post and put it on the top right of the site. It’s also made all the more timely by the official anouncement of the Clubman name.
First, we’ll give you the dates and then we’ll talk details.
* July/August 2007: Clubman pictures and information made available to the press
* August 2007: Clubman enters full pre-production at the Oxford Plant
* Early September 2007: Clubman makes it’s public debut at the Frankfurt Motorshow
* Late Fall: Clubman goes on sale in Europe/UK
* February 2008: Clubman goes on sale in US market
For Clubman production, MINI will roughly follow the same timeline it used for the R56 as seen above. That means R55 will enter major production some time in August of 2007. Look for these early cars to be mostly made of press and demonstration cars. Judging from how R56 production was handled, look for customer cars to start to be produced in October and November for a UK and European launch in November of 2007. The US launch will follow in February of 2008.
The European public debut is scheduled for the Frankfurt Motorshow in early September with the North American most likely debut set for Detroit in early 2008. Look for official images and specifications to be released in late July or early August with the first European press drives of production spec cars happening in October.
The R55 should go onsale in the UK and Europe late in the fall. In the US, expect a February debut similar to that of the R56 – which had a February onsale date.
When the Clubman hits the production line full-time later this fall, there will be one R55 produced for every four R56s.

there will be one R55 produced for every four R56s

I wonder if BMW isn’t underestimating the interest in the Clubman . . . I think that Clubman may appeal to more than 20% of the MINI tintop market.
Is the 1:4 a technical restriction or a predition of the sales ratio?
I sort of like the little bugger. I was going to get a r56 on my return from Iraq, but I might just hold on a little longer. Anyone know if I can order my R56 over the internet so that when I return to the states in October or November it will be sitting at the dealership waiting for me?
Sweet! I also expect that the Clubman will eventually make up more than 20% of the MINI hardtop mix.
Joe-on ordering your car from over seas, I would be very surprised if this couldn’t be arranged with your local dealer. When you place an order you’re not making a formal purchase. The biggest thing to arrange for you would be making a deposit ($500 in my case). You can configure a car to your specifications on miniusa.com and email that to your dealer.
Lovely, I thought so. The only problem is the nearest dealership is 156 miles. Im stationed in North Carolina. Luckily, there is one 47 miles from home back in Ohio.
Fantastic news. I am so happy, I want to give Gabe a hug. 😉

Thoughts on the timing for AWD (if at all)? One more year after that?
Just remember if you want one in the U.S. you won’t see it until Feb. 2008.
and AWD will be available when?
Joe, try ordering through http://www.pentagoncarsales.com . You can get your car tax free and they will deliver to your stateside dealer.
Bill, youre the man! Thank alot.
Bill, have you used them before? Email me at japfingsten @ hotmail.com so we stay off this thread, thanks.
Joe and other US Servicemen. There is a Military sales scheme available for purchasing MINI or BMW vehicles while serving abroad. Check out the official website for details.

Don’t hold your breath for the Clubman to have AWD.
AWD Uneccessary.
“Joe and other US Servicemen. There is a Military sales scheme available for purchasing MINI or BMW vehicles while serving abroad. Check out the official website for details.”
That’s what Pentagon is- BMW/MINI/SAAB Military sales.
When will the R55 be available in Australia?
Does anyone know if the Clubman will be available for show at the New York Autoshow this Spring?
Eric, very doubtful.

When the Clubman hits the production line full-time later this fall, there will be one R55 produced for every four R56s.
Which means that for some time, there will be long waiting lists and very high dealer surcharge.

Don’t hold your breath for the Clubman to have AWD.

But that is exactly what I am holding my breath for… You mean I can’t have a sweet MINI ski car. Noooooooo!! I hate chains!!
This applies more to the March 6th posting of :”MINI Officially Claims the Clubman Name”, but I thought it might apply here also. I just bought a book from Barnes & Nobble titled: “The World’s Worst Cars” written by Craig Cheetham.
And yes the The Mini Clubman (1969-1981) is listed in the book. Here’s and excerpt:
“You can’t improve on perfection, and the Mini Clubman is all the evidence you’ll ever need.”
and..
“…whoever was responsible for the redesign was unsympathetic towards the original Mini’s gorgeous looks and the Clubman appeared too long, while squared-off nose sat awkwardly with the curvaceous tail inherited from the standard Mini.”
“After 12 years of production, the Clubman was shelved and the original continued.”
Let’s hope that the new BMW Mini Clubman doesn’t end up in the same way, in a some book titled “World’s worst Cars.”
The real questions:
When can we configure one on MINI USA
and
When can we actually place an order (not a deposit for a space in a line)
