Pete Foglia and his tuning shop MIN Speed (formerly MyMINI) are featured in this week’s issue of Autoweek. Pete (for years one of our favorite people in the MINI world) talks mods, how the shop got started, and one of his latest project cars. Here’s an excerpt:
>Peter Foglia guessed, and he guessed wrong. He figured that his South Florida Mini-only store, Minspeed, would sell a lot of aftermarket parts to owners of regular Coopers, because, after all, by not buying the pricier Cooper S, they’d have more to spend on personalizing their cars.
>”My mistake,” Foglia says. “It’s the Cooper S owners who come in and say, ‘I just bought this car. What do you have for me?’ ”
>What Foglia has is a long list of upgrades-inside, outside, under the hood-for owners of the 2002-2006 R50-R53 models, but aftermarket parts for the new ’07 model, called the R56, are trickling in slowly. The last-generation Cooper S, with its 1.6-liter, 168-hp, supercharged engine, is already a potent little car, but it’s one with untapped potential.

quick corection, The store name is MINSPEED not MiNISPEED. I was there yesterday buying my new suspension.. Thought it help.
I have known Pete for about 3 years. He is a true gentleman and one of the most trustworthy vendors out in MINI world. We are fortunate to have him close to home in South Florida.
A month ago a bought from him a brand new set of second generation runflats that came right off his new R56 MCS. He mounted them in my R53 X-Lite rims and did a fantastic job. The price for the tires was out of this world. Needless to say I am a customer for life. next in the list is the JCW airbox and some other bits that I have been eying for some time.
Pete is a sponsor to Minis of Miami and his generosity has made possible many fun events. he also supports http://www.sunshineminis.org, the Florida Mini/MINI club.
If you happen to be in the Pompano Area, I can only recommend but to drop by and give Pete a visit. You will not regret it.
If you don’t live in FLA and wish to get mods done where should one go? Can’t trust just any hack mechanic. I’m in Cleveland BTW.
