How many times do you see a glowing review of what is essentially a five year old car? If you’re reading MINI reviews lately, you’ve probably seen your fair share. Here’s the latest from Cnet:
>Rather than suffering the common fate of being a retro flash in the pan, BMW’s new Mini Coopers hold their looks well, even after five years on the road. With body styling virtually unchanged from the original 2001 launch model, the 2006 Mini Cooper S still evokes a happy feeling each time it passes. Even when inside the car, there is an urge to shout “Look at me, I’m in a Mini” to other drivers. And of course, they are all jealous of the pseudo-’60s lines and German engineering.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.
“But the supercharger leads to occasional hesitation at launch.”
What???
Ummm, what???
Me no understando.
Glad they liked the car, but I’m perplexed by that comment. What does that even mean?
Good review but don’t agree with the comments about the sunroof. I love it s it makes the car feel much roomier inside.
Jon… “The Stumble” as it was know by us earlier model owners. I never did get rid of it on my ’02 MCS. My ’04 MCS has some when very hot here in SoCal and especially when I have the air on but nothing like my ’02.
I guess they couldn’t figure out the “M” button was for folder navigation mode on an MP3 CD.
1.The seats get too hot on long drives….LOL
they have no idea what they are a talking about.
2. The MP3 player hock up…
well yes it could be standard but how many use it?
3. The cup holder,
they don’t know how to unscrew it(c/net)two screws(thats too hard for them..lol) and then make some $$$ by selling it on ebay …lol

Wow, I learned something new today!
And they totally missed the curtain airbags… we have SIX air bags, not four… no wonder we’re safe in our wee beasts! LOL
I just can’t understand why every reviewer has to comment on how the large central speedometer is unpractical? Personally I find it much easier to use than a lot of these tiny little speedometers with itty-bitty numbers buried on a hole straight in front of you. Just because it is a little off center doesn’t make your eyes glance any further away from the road. I can tell how fast I’m going just by glancing quickly at the HUGE orange needle and if it is pointing straight up I’m about the speed limit, sorta 😉
If it is between 11-12:00 o’clock then I’m at the speed limit. If it is between 12-1:00 o’clock then I’m having fun!
I’m thinking between 12 and 3 is better!
Who does CNET’s auto reviews? They would be one of the last places I would go for auto reviews. Not that all computer geeks can’t review a car, but I think the GB in a HD is more to their expertise than HP and FT/LB.
Unless I’m running perfect fuel (Shell, before the addition of Ethanol), I feel a fair bit of hesitation in low RPMs at launch of my ’06 MCS. I’ve learned to give it a bit more gas and rev up before lifting off of the clutch, but it was very frustrating for a long while.
The JCW I test drove did not suffer from this problem at all.
I believe that, in blaming the supercharger, the author is comparing a supercharged 168 hp engine to a naturally aspirated 168 hp engine and is suggesting that the use of the supercharger to achieve the power is a possible cause for the low RPM hesitation.
I’m sure that an air intake, a pully and maybe a new exhaust would fix the problem, but I’m happy w/ stock and a less-assailable warranty for now.
agranger….Not sure where you live but GBMINI … http://www.gbmini.net/mtblog/…. I think did a post, or talked about it here on MF, on octane’s and how he had found that a lower rating worked better for his MCSa. Out here in LaLa Land I never could find that particular octane he recommended and the lower ones we have out here gave me lower performance.
Sorry Ian if I miss quoted you.
Awww i started with this on NAM…i knew i should of sent it to you guys…oh well…as for the review, it’s CNET! about cars! enough said. The reviewer seems very picky, it’s more of a review pertaining to his wants and needs and not the needs and wants of the public in general.
Agree with the sunroof comments. HA!
SunRoof Haters….Cave dwellers!
Someone said Cave? ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz
The light from the sunroof is too much, if your a vampire!
