Brian Cooley from CNet Car Tech takes his turn with the MINI Clubman S. It’s an interesting review to say the least.
Of course he doesn’t like the rear pillar or the Club door. Also, it would seem he isn’t a huge fan of the Automatic Transmission either.
It’s a great way to spend 3 1/2 minutes if you don’t have anything to do. If you are a fan of the 1 Series, he does a pretty good review of that as well immediately following the Clubman review.
Thanks everyone for sending this in!

Why is it that such a large number of clueless reviewers complain about the small club door… but they don’t even slide the front passenger seat forward, as intended?
DUH!
This guy is an A^* in my opinion. Did he even drive the auto?
We have the auto and the paddles that he loves on the one series are the same in form and function on the Clubman!
As for the trans, it’s better than the previous autos used in MINI’s.
The rear pillar, ENOUGH ALREADY, you don’t even notice it. Also for all the soccer moms, driving Hummers and Suburbans with 1.2 persons in the truck there is more visibility in the Clubman than any SUV.
The retro interior is the point! What a rube.
He makes fun of the speedo then goes on to explain that it is bigger for a reason. If he is trying to be funny, he is not.
Edge, you are right on with your observation. If you are reviewing a car, any car, use it as it was intended to be used. The seat release is much easier than the last generation and the seat in all BMW seats move forward with ease.
Over all, I would say, don’t pay attention to this review.
Why the hell is CNet doing car reviews? I think they should improve thier search functions to make it back into the usefull tech information site it used to be instead of going for crap like this. Pointless reviews that just scratch the surface of cars…. I just wish that I could actually find good information about digital cameras like I used to be able to. I’ve left CNet pretty much for good cause I don’t find any value in it anymore. These two reviews (Clubman and 135) really confirmed my feelings. For the Clubman review, while trashing the rear doors and the pillar in the rear view, he fails to note the historical link to the the design of the past or mention that actual owners get used to the view very quickly. (I did like the “dinner plate” comment though). For the 135, he never really answered his own question if it’s a 2002tii or a 318ti, instead leaving it with a “editors pick” yet not mentioning it’s very close in price to a three series. Wasted bandwidth and time. At least the reviews multitask efficiently!

Whatever.
As with all CNet auto reviews, crap.
what a stooge. beyond his not knowing his left from his right, getting the length wrong, and just dumb things he speaks, he’s obviuosly not a car person. He didn’t like the engine in the 135 or m3 either. go figure.
Um… I drove the Audi V8 and the BMW V8 back to back. The audi kicks ass. The BMW needs to be wound to really scream, like a V-Tech. then it just drinks gas. They are both great engines, but I’d rather have the Audi mill under my hood.
Matt
As far as I’m concerned, comparing the Audi V8 to the BMW M3-V8 is like asking whether I prefer white wine to red wine. They are both great and both have their place.
