Leftlanenews has more spy shots of the 2009 MINI Cooper Convertible. Still with the top up, but they are doing some testing here.
This MINI is due out spring of 2009. And until we get to see it with the top down, follow the link below for the most current spy shots as well as a bunch since December 2007.
You can keep up with all of the R57 news right here at Motoringfile as well, just watch the R57 section.
I like the new placement of the parking assist sensors.
Is it just the photo angle, or does the back of the top appear to have a little more of a slope to it?
Nothing too surprising here. I think to the masses who can’t really tell the R56 from the R53, the R57 is not going to look very different from the R52.
Looks like they’ve gone to great lengths to hide the roll hoops. I’m really curious to see what they did now. Otherwise, not sure why they needed to hide the MINI logo…,maybe so everybody would think it’s a clone from China or something?
Did anyone read the comments? NASTY! I stated months ago this looks like a PT Cruiser convertible due the the larger body and apparently someone here agreed.
This is why I ordered the last JCW/MCSC R52 from my dealer last week. Gotta hear the supercharger as long as possible and hope that the third generation brings back the things I love about R53/52 that the R56 lacks.
Just my two bucks. R56 is a great car, but not a great Mini IMO.
Is it just me or do the boot hinges not seem to be hinges at all? They are contradictory in style in a couple photos, and they don’t even touch the bottom in one of them. Hmm…
One word: Yuck.
(I’m referring to the immense number of <a href="http://www.leftlanenews.com/wp-content/plugins/iimage-gallery.php?idpost=6963&idg=1&idi=3" rel="nofollow">bugs</a> crushed against the grill, not the design.)
Seriously, why bother taping over the MINI logo on the bonnet and boot?
Looks like the rear bumper is from the factory aero kit. And its running on last gen S-Lite wheels.

Interesting. It looks like that top is brown. Maybe they will offer top colors other than black, green and blue?

Mowse, be warned that your comments will unleash the ire of the R56 court of justice, currently presided by defacto judge, Your Honor Mr. Lavardera
(Disclaimer: The above is just a joke not to be construed as a personal attack)
Never let it be said that the R56 is not my “second” favorite car!

Mowse, I can sympathize with you. I’m heading elsewhere for another car in 2009.
Lots of nice used R53/R52s out there…
