MINI UK Release: The MINI One Clubman will be unveiled at the International Geneva Motor Show on 03 March 2009. The new entry-level model in the Clubman range gives customers the chance to take advantage of MINI’s renowned low running and ownership costs, and carries a list price of £13,290 OTR.
Powered by the1.4-litre, four cylinder petrol engine found in the Hatch version of the MINI One, the newcomer possesses all the characteristics that make driving every MINI a grin-inducing experience. With an engine producing 95 hp and the same steering and suspension as its sporty Cooper-badged sibling, the MINI One Clubman boasts trademark go-kart handling and razor-sharp cornering capability.
Outstanding fuel efficiency and low CO2 emission figures are ensured through the standard fitment of MINIMALISM technologies. Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start Stop and Shift Point Display are all standard features on the car. Fuel bills will be minimised due to a combined fuel consumption figure of 52.3 mpg, and the cost of an annual road fund licence will be just £35 because of the MINI One Clubman’s impressive C02 emission figure of just 130 g/km, placing it in VED tax band C.
A short-shifting 6-speed manual transmission is standard, with the option of a 6-speed auto with manual-shift capability.
The performance data for the new MINI One Clubman is as impressive as that of the entire MINI Clubman range.
– Price: £13,290
– Power (hp): 95
– Torque (Nm): 140
– Top Speed: 114
– 0-62 mph: 11.6
– MPG (Combined): 52.3
– CO2: 130 (g/km)
New exterior colour combinations will be available for the MINI One Clubman. It will be possible to specify Silver or Black variants of this model with the same colour C-pillars. Previously the C-Pillar was always supplied in a contrasting shade.
From 01 January 2009, air conditioning is supplied as standard with every new MINI. UK dealers are ready to take orders for the MINI One Clubman now.
When will the USA wake up to the lower spec ONE models?
The model lowers the entry level price and allows for customers to customise their own spec level.
We need the MINI One in Canada too. I’ve always thought this MINI would sell well here and finally I could afford one (ONE). Some of us don’t need all the options and accessories, just give me a 6 speed and some nice seats and I’m off.
Is there supposed to be a pic?
grmpydude, why you may need a pic? Everything is the same except new software for engine 😉
For perspective, note that the Clubman One’s on-the-road UK price is currently equal to about $18,500. That’s a decent savings over the U.S. price for the base Clubman Cooper.
Maybe MINI could still bring the One coupe to North America but sell it exclusively with manual transmission. That’d be pretty interesting market segmentation, offering a lower entry price (say about $16,800) for a very focused slice of the market that might not otherwise consider buying (or afford) a MINI.
Any chance this part is coming to the US too? Black on Black Clubbie with tinted windows, hmmmm….

They just need to finish the chrome strip when doing this.
I would be happy seeing some of the technology like Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start Stop and Shift Point Display make it into an American car.
No doubt with the way minis have been selling here they would have a market for Ones. It would definitely bring new buyers in, as well as scavenge some cooper buyers for sure, but I think it would be a net gain of enough sales to be worth it.
Well Alex there is usually a photo above the story no matter how repetitive the news is and I’ve been a poster here some 5 years.
I think there is a market for the ONE. However, MINIUSA does not want the product to be perceived as “Too low level” in this country. It is just a marketing ploy. Same reason why in this country you don’t see bare bones, 4 cyl versions of BMWs currently sold in Europe. It is all about keeping the “Premium” image and thus the admission prices.
The ONE also exists in Europe due to road/fuel taxation. It allows more people to get into the MINI fold who otherwise could not afford to step up to a Cooper model.
MINIUSA used the argument against bringing the ONE here as being too underpowered. I don’t think that argument holds water any longer.
I went to the UK site to build a one, just to see the difference. I didn’t see much. Things like OBC and short button are options for the one. No seat height adjustment. Cars can only be single body color with no contrasting roof and mirror colors. Other than that and the engine I had a hard time telling a MC from a MC ONE. The One offers almost no advantage from a mpg standpoint (1 mpg imperial), so I question what’s the point?
I do think there is a market for a lower entry mini, I’m just not sure it should be the one, or a more austere version of the current Cooper hatchback. I’d rather have the more austere version of the current Cooper.
I don’t think the word PREMIUM is very fashionable in USA at the moment, especially on Pennsylvania Avenue.
It looks like some nifty photo processing, but it doesn’t hurt to ask … are those new colors?
glangford’s reply leaves me speechless (almost). How can an MC get o/a 51 MPG combined in the UK and same car “only” 30 or so in the USA?
What am I missing?
We’ve got a 2007 MC w/auto and sunroof. We get 26/33 (me driving) and 22 city (her driving). If people could get 51 with a 6 spd MC or Clubman for $20-23k few would buy a Prius for $25k
Imperial Gallons 😉
Dan S check the mini uk site. Imperial gallons mpg is about the same for MC and MC one. 1 mpg difference.
Thanx fo da pics… I mean what’s a MotoringFile post without the great pics that usually accompany it!

The photos have been on this post since it was launched yesterday. It’s a flash viewer as is customary on an increasing number of posts.
On my browser there were no pics until yesterday.
Gabe, Actually this post was launched on the 19th not on the 20th and even MOST of yesterday there were no pics… again on my browser.
When I made that comment yesterday was the 19th. And yes, photos have always been there.
I could be wrong but it seems you made your comment on the 20th and the post was on the 19th. I use Safari. Another poster, Alex, commented to me ” why do you need pics it’s old news.”

God… I’m so confused at what you’re trying to say. Anyway this post was put up on the 19th and no changes where ever made to it. The fact you didn’t see photos would indicate user or system errors on your end.
Are there any photos of the rear showing the “no-contrast” option, which I gather is only available for the Black or Silver car color. I still think the required contrasting trim for the Clubman is a “clunky” design feature. And I remember one of the first things I did to “customize” my ’61 Austin Mini 850 was painting its “scallopy” aluminum grill Flat Black.
Great, that’s just what we need. A poverty spec clubman.
Flogging a dead horse springs to mind!
an $18K MINI is hardly a “poverty” spec car, Mr. “Noveau Riche”.
Hear, hear! I would really enjoy seeing a MINI in the states for under 20K really, not $19,995 before destination, handling, and taxes. Something around $18,250 when everything is said and done would be brilliant – give more people access to the brand as well. Odd though – I cannot really muster what to shave off the standard equipment of a Cooper besides the engine and a few chrome bits for black. Maybe throw out the Sport button, the adjustable ambient lighting, shiny tailpipe, ditch some audio system luxuries, the aircon glove box, and trip computer along long with adding the ultra-standard two spoke steering wheel just to name a few…
