To coincide with the Countryman’s launch next week in Geneva MINI and their agency have created the first long form commercial/promo video for the new crossover. At 2:30 it’s clearly meant to give not only a good look at the Countryman but some insight into who the campaign is aimed at. For instance for the first time in any MINI video we actually see families and children. It still has that MINI attitude but it’s inset in a little more reality than before.

The kid in the backseat really surprised me! Kudos to MINI for taking a daring step!

Always great to see a car in motion, it changes the dynamic, and the Countryman looks fantastic!

A great ad – now more 4 wheel slides please.

A very entertaining commercial, well done MINI!

Didn’t really like the video. Not at all. Don’t like the vehicle either. Not at all. Don’t think the vehicle is attractive at all. I do like the little slidey-rail thing inside between the seats.

Ooo, cud…I mean…pineapples! I mean, power slides, and fun looking stuff. Way more interesting than the earlier driving videos. Looks like fun, I like it, I want one.

A bigger trunk, 4 real seats, AWD, ya, I’ll actually use all of those things. I already use my MCS as a 2 person wagon when it packed to the roof with snowboarding gear.

I love it. I’m in production myself, and the guys and girls in MINI Design did an exceptional job!

There’s a rail mounted iPod/iPhone mount with what looks like interchangeable dock plates at 1:41. It should make everyone who suggested that in the rail contest happy!

Is that Gabe with a beard the :43sec mark?

lol

lol @ zipping around on snowy roads with your kids in the car while checking email on your iphone.

Unimpressed! The rail thing is absolutely worthless, IMO, and two cup holders sliding back and forth is just silly. Sliding around on wet grass proves WHAT?? This was 2:30 of wasted production. Without seating for five, I am completely over this vehicle.

Isn’t that Gabe at 0:43 in the video?

Great video. Love the shot of the couple in bed, followed by the couple with the kid, too. Shows the MINI owner’s family expanding and the desire for a little more versatility.

this thing will probably be a lovely vehicle. I’m not in the market for it, but I think it will be a success.

Have to agree… pretty pointless video with very little actual car time in it.

Also, in the write up there is a reference to “Clubman”, I think that should be “Countryman”.

By being soooooo lifestyle focused, the video reinforces to me the (wrong) idea that the Countryman is a branding exercise–which it is obviously not, is a very exciting addition to the MINI stable, but I think a better ratio of “better coverage of brand new MINI” to “slick lifestyle moments we’ve seen a billion times” would benefit the model’s image, and keep the brand from looking like it’s pandering to people who need lifestyle examples to get excited. Just 2 cents.

I think it’s actually a great video.

I did not miss the shots of the strollers, the skier, the child playing with Duplos in the back seat. I know this ad doesn’t speak for everybody, but as someone who has had to test out 15 strollers to determine which ones fold up nicely and fit in the boot of my R53 and whose skis are sitting idle this season, this ad was right on target for me.

My issues with this car (no 5 person seating or diesel in the US, healthy skepticism about the rail system) remain, but I’m pretty much sold on everything else about it and whether I would put myself in line to purchase one is just a matter of a test drive and making a peaceful compromise with the side of me that insists my next vehicle be a diesel.

This car is going to do very well for MINI in the US market. Very well.

I love this ad!! Great cinematography and footage. I’m really digging the tune too – anyone know who sings it or is it a MINI-only song?

The part with the couple’s feet in bed is nice because it subtly and uniquely shows the family expanding. I also like that you don’t see the gender of the parents… so everyone can relate to it!

I am really excited for this car! I was before, but now I’m really pumped from this video – of course that was the purpose of it! Can’t wait to see and hear more from Geneva!

The song is “Rocking Chair” by Cindi Lauper
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEDm3J2hjOY

This is impressive. Very nice 4 wheel drift too :D.

Video was two and a half minutes. Actual shots of the car came in around 45 seconds. Most (not all) of the auto shots were abstract. Show me the car!

I could see this working for me… Drop it ~2″ and stiffen it up. Wide, sticky rubber. JCWesque power. Aero kit. Real seats.

As lilcoopr said the track is Cindi Lauper’s Rocking Chair. I believe the song was produced by Basement Jaxx, which is a fantastic group in their own right as well. Check out their stuff if you enjoyed the commercial tuneage.

…it was a great clip. Keep of the great work MINI…

Great video.
I get it, with two little kids my self. If you don’t get it – well, you are not the target audience for this video anyway.
Want to see more of the car? How about just watch the vid/pic which has been available for the past month, just keep starring at it until you are satisfied.
Branding exercise? The whole MINI franchise is a branding/life style exercise! Just because you drive a two door you are above that?
News flash: MINI will be selling the middle sliding rail without the car soon. Just to satisfy all parties.

Love the really nice version of course. Lots of Barcelona scenery which is lovely. But I think the dog’s clip is actually stock video and its not even inside a Mini. Cheap move I think. If I am incorrect please let me know.

This just makes me really miss all of the Coopster updates a few months ago…

Coopster updates are coming.

Coopster updates are coming.

I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which scenery were Barcelona?
I thought I saw San Francisco at about 0:34. Am I wrong?
Anyone recognized the bridge? I looks familiar but don’t remember where I have seen it.

The high res photography is definitely done in Barcelona and around Catalunya. The high speed video sequence is Via Laietana in Barcelona. (:42). There is plenty of Getty video imagery in this video, so there might be interlaced footage that we all can recognize closer to home.

Love it! Love the song, love the ad! It is a great way to promote the new Countryman! As an MA for 5 years, and a loyal MINI owner for 8 years, I can’t wait for this latest addition! Who cares if it’s not a hatch, convertible or the smallest MINI?? It is still a freakin’ MINI and MINI owner’s are asking for it. Get ready…MINI is bustin’ out again! Congrats on a great product and let’s all welcome the Countryman to the MINI world! Peace!
