@ Pyro, lol seriously. Not to take away from the thread but I’ve been doing a little reading over a bimmerpost on this video as well as motoring alliance and methinks I read that the MINI is not 650hp, but 350. Either way, it’s wicked fast, MINI take note.

Just wondering about that 650 hp in the mini, or for that matter, how did they get 350 hp in the Mini without breaking everything. Also, that M3 sure sounds like a V8 to me, and I didn’t hear any supercharger whine either. It did sound good though. Guess I still like the sound of a V8.

Nice to see how much the MINI can pull away from the M3 but vice versa it may not be the case? They weren’t actually racing, just having fun, or else it may have been different.

Mark is correct! And also they were racing. It’s a form of Time Attack called Touge. Two cars race but can’t pass each other, but the lead car has to try to pull away as far from the following car. The following car has to stay close behind the lead car. The larger the gap the lead car puts on the following car, that car wins! Both have two laps each and the following car has it’s turn to be the lead car.

The ABF/MINI USA DRAG/TRACK car has two configurations, when used as a DRAG car we run up to 650whp but on the track we run from 350whp to 450whp.

It was a race. Look at the times, and take a lesson and read how Time Attack works. It’s about the time, and both cars attack it. The MINI did a time, and the BMW M3 did a time. And the MINI won by far, sorry if you don’t understand the concept.

ABF MINI 1:27.782 v Paul BMW M3 1.32.064

after the swap over

Paul BMW M3 1:32.333 and ABF MINI went 1:32.224 being behind him and still ran faster. So what other racing do you need to prove the MINI won?

@Jason. No need to prove anthing.
I guess this is a bit like Track cycling where one guy starts on start/finish line and the other guy starts on the halfway point. Then you can actually see each lap who has gained or lost.
In Touge (meaning Japanese “pass”) it looks like the only advantage is that cars cannot make contact. Otherwise you may as well run separate lap shootouts like they do in Australian V8 Supercar races to see who takes pole position.

@Greg W. I understand where you are coming from. But during that day, they did race in their class. And the MINI is still faster by the time from start to finish. At the end of the race in the video above, the MINI would have pass right by the M3 on that straight away, but the rules says not to. So that’s the point I am saying. No worries.

I thought you said there was a MINI in this video? ;)

Supercharged?
The E92M3 is turbocharged.
Or has a supercharger been added?

That’s the ABF/MINIUSA Drag MINI set up for Time Attack. It can be tuned for 450-650hp depending on the application.

The E92 M3 in an NA V8. The E90 335i is a twin turbo 6cyl. The E92 M3 being raced here supposedly has a SC on it.

Well if that is Touge racing, no thanks. Lets see a real race situation to compare.
I’d rather watch drifting…

Thats’s quite the Touge race, 650HP @ the FWD? holly cow!
