MINI Takes the Unofficial Front Wheel Drive Nurburgring Record
Sport Auto’s resident racer just took a modified JCW R56 around the ‘Ring is a smoking 7:44. That’s over 45 seconds faster than a stock JCW. With 290 hp you could understand why. But it’s also the roll cage and full KW coil over system, Drexler LSD and Dunlop Direzza 03Gs that allowed such an incredible time. Click through to see it all happen in under eight minutes.

<p>That’s the first time I’ve seen the Ring closed to other drivers. This guy is so fast, the video looked like it was sped up! Very nice ‘close to the edge’ driving!</p>

<p>Looks like a handful to drive on the track but impressive nonetheless.</p>
<p>Curious if there is a post somewhere with the complete list of parts and mods they used. Seems like they did major weight reductions and mods to the engine as well.</p>
