MINI to Skip the North American Internaional Auto Show?
Rumors are circulating that MINI plans to skip the NAIAS this January. Motoring.com.au is reporting that MINI (along with Jaguar and Land Rover) are planning on skipping what has historically been the most important show in North America. The thought is that, without a new model or concept to show, MINI could spend its money elsewhere.
If true it would mark the first time the brand has missed the show but not the first time it’s skipped a large motor show in the US. Last year MINI surprised everyone by skipping the NYC show in an effort to cut costs.
It’s also worth noting that 2016 is a year that MINI will be hosting its massive cross country event MINI Takes the States. Given the costs and positive publicity that that event generates, MINIUSA may have decided 2016 would be a better year than most to sit out NAIAS.
If MINI is a no show for NAIAS look for Geneva to be the next major international show it attends. There we expect the JCW Convertible to be unveiled.

I posted a comment on seeing the new Clubman at the San Francisco Int’l Auto show this weekend. Somehow the comment didn’t get posted. Not going to type it all again.

To summarize, it’s looks better in person than in pictures and video. Interior is nice including the center switch stack/surround area. Front passenger dash seems a bit long/unbroken.

It’s comfortable in the rear seating area, MINI should have included a USB port for the rear seat passengers. Blind spot tech should also have been included (as standard). Many lesser priced cars have it now.

Whoever buys the Clubman will have to be mindful when parking to ensure they leave/have enough rearward room to open the Club/barn doors. With the Clubman being 168.3 inches in length, you’ll need to add about 12-15 inches when the barn doors swing open. If someone parks too close, you won’t be able to open the barn doors fully.

I have not need or desire for a 6 door vehicle but the length isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
