While it pales in comparison to the issues the people of Ukraine are dealing with, the recent Russian invasion is also causing issues for BMW and MINI. Both brands are facing production issues due to the supply chain disruptions relating to the invasion.
“The conflict in Ukraine is having a far-reaching impact on production in the supplier industry there. The resulting production stoppages will lead to successive production adjustments and interruptions at several BMW plants,” according to BMW PR (as told to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung).
According to the report, production at the BMW plants in Munich and in Dingolfing Germany, will be paused next week. Additionally MINI will cease production at it’s Oxford plan during the same time due to the disruptions.
The issues stem from delivery delays of wire harnesses sources from western Ukraine. The harnesses come from the German company Leoni which has two plans in Ukraine. The company is reportedly moving production to other plants while ensuring the safety its Ukrainian employees.
