MINI USA and the MINI John Cooper Works Team had another exciting race weekend at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va., for the third race weekend in the 2022 SRO TC America series. The Brownsburg, Ind. -based LAP Motorsports team, which operates the MINI JCW Team, battled a competitive field to bring home two third place finishes for the weekend.

Race 1 on Saturday found Clay Williams in the #60 MINI JCW Pro involved a ferocious battle for the top spot in the Touring Car (TC) class for a majority of the race. Williams was later forced to settle for third place after mechanical issues during the fourth and final restart.

Race 2 of the weekend found another a fierce battleground between Honda, MINI, Subaru, and Hyundai racers in the Touring Car A (TCA) class with competitive racing leading to a full-course yellow, followed shortly by the red flag for barrier repair, after 20 minutes of racing. When the checkered flag dropped, Cristian Perocarpi, distinguished by his green racing suit highlighting the new MINIVerse Racing Experience in Meta Horizon Worlds launched earlier this week, had piloted the #61 MINI JCW into third place. Perocarpi also celebrated his 19th birthday at the track this weekend.

“This was another tough weekend up against a very competitive field, but the team held their own on the track,” said Luis Perocarpi, team owner, LAP Motorsports. “I am very proud of the team for their hard work this weekend and for the technicians who are always a huge support for the team.”

This past weekend, MINI USA had six qualified MINI Dealer technicians working alongside the LAP Motorsports team during practice, qualifying and race days as part of the MINI Technician Race Crew Program. The six dealer technicians were from dealers in the Southern Region, including two from Hendrick MINI in Charlotte, one from Flow MINI in Raleigh, one from Flow MINI in Winston-Salem, one from Momentum MINI in Houston and one from MINI of Richmond. Each of them supported the team for the entire weekend at VIR. The race team relies on the skill and knowledge of the technicians that work, day to day on MINI, to bring that expertise to the track.
