Anthracite Headliner Shortage

We’ve been getting reports that Clubman coming to the US with the Anthracite headliner option have been getting the standard headliner due to a shortage.

According to a thread on North American Motoring, dealers were sent a bulletin at the end of September telling of this problem and recommending that dealers not deliver cars. Of course, some cars were delivered.

If ordered your MINI with the Anthracite headliner option and are expecting delivery soon, you might want to check in with your dealer.

It’s not just the headliner on most cars it turns out … its also the associated a/b/c pillars.

And it seems to only be affecting Clubman models

I never cared for the anthracite headliner.

It is standard equipment on JCWs, so I am sure it is affecting production. My JCW Clubman goes into production 2nd week of Nov. Hope they’re back in stock by then :)

I have always cared for mine.

It doesn’t need as much care since it’s dark and doesn’t show dirt.

Booya!

Maybe the anthracite headliner doesn’t care for you, either!

I really really like mine.

makes it too dark inside the car…for me at least. Crap! I’m agreeing with Frank..!

The lighting is perfect in mine with the sunroof and shade. Like it lots more than my two previous Mini’s.

Is the Anthracite headliner half price if you order the sunroof? ;)

Anthracite headliner is a must have.

I am not a fan either to much all the same color brings back the days of the 80’s to me. I like the lighter and most high end cars use a lighter roof anyways.

It makes the car feel like a Ford Pinto.

(Tongue in cheek, so relaxxxxxxx)

Picked up my Clubman today and no anthracite headliner. I’m very disappointed that Mini and my dealer were not more pro-active in addressing this situation. If nothing else, I should have gotten an official head’s up as soon as it was determined that orders would be filled without an ordered option. I was offered nothing to ease the pain — told I could either get $250 reduced from the price or I could have the headliner replaced when parts became available. Decided to take the $250, but I’m very unhappy with the customer service. Mini seems to be getting a bit too big for its boots!

mini vanilli Oct 9th, 2008 Link

car looks much cheaper without inside, and in fact technically the car is cheaper without it ;)

ReplyReply
Danf Oct 9th, 2008 Link

I can think of better things to spend 200 dollars on.

ReplyReply
C4 Oct 9th, 2008 Link

For $200 that headliner should be made of real velour!

ReplyReply
C4 Oct 9th, 2008 Link

The anthracite headliner has to be one of the most overrated options in the MINI.

It makes the interior look cheap and low rent. Not too mention dark and claustrophobic.

But hey, that’s me. Why would anyone pay MINI money for the same exact standard headliner but dyed in dark color? (And probably it costs them an extra $1-$2 per headliner to do).

Nice profit built into it.

DavidB Oct 10th, 2008 Link

Have to say as much as I love my R56 it’s a shame the headliner isn’t the same quality it was in the R50/R53.

greg Oct 10th, 2008 Link

Only five posts on the subject C4?

ReplyReply

Haha. I like to ruff some feathers on the subject, Greg.

DavidB, I agree 100%.

MikeJCW Oct 10th, 2008 Link

I’m fine with either headliner – light or dark. It just happens that the JCWs come with it so I’m fine with that ’cause I don’t have to pay extra for it

ReplyReply
Ontheroadagain Oct 10th, 2008 Link

As an aside – I agree, DavidB that the quality of the headliner is not as good as it used to be. That said, as with most peripheral things, one does get used to it and soon doesn’t notice it anymore.

I’m with you C4. This place needs a little needling now and then to stay interesting. It’s getting boooooring with the same post over and over i.e. 15 posts on the crossman concept with no new infor and the same pix. Yawn.

The anthracite headliner makes the interior look more expensive, and the light gray is what looks cheap (like most econoboxes). I also picked it because it hides the large “gaps” at the club-door pillar and basically makes all the various gaps and joints “disappear”. Plus it will hide years of wear and tear, and all you need is a black marker to touchup any light-colored stains.

PS: I do have the double sunroof, which is probably the main reason I was able to give up a convertible after 11 years.

Ron Arnold Oct 13th, 2008 Link

I saw something a few weeks ago about this, but I never through that it would come to this. I’m shocked that the free-roaming herds of wild Anthracite have been “harvested” to the levels where manufacturers had to go without. Save the Anthracites!
