MINI to Debut New Advertising During the Superbowl?
We’ve been hearing rumors for quite sometime about MINI USA making a big (and unexpected) splash during America’s largest sporting even, the Superbowl. And while we can’t give any more details at this time we can give you one word that you should remember… after the jump.

Rather funny to say but I think the average American football fanatics in general are likely at the very bottom of the list of perspective MINI buyers. Maybe Jim can show up delivering a pizza in a R60, if so he should make it even better by wearing his Porsche>MINI shirt that he was supposed to wear to celebrate MINI getting spanked on a loaded race.

I think this is an excellent way for MINI to extend their visibility to a broader audience. The Super Bowl is easily one of the biggest and most-viewed advertising opportunities, and the people who watch it span many demographics. America’s football fanatics range from college students at parties to guys heading into retirement and everything in between. As long as they can get the commercial right, this could be a really big move for MINI.

Not sure if any of you have looked across most every professional game, let alone Superbowl parking lot to see the number of subcompacts are a definite minority. I also know a large number of people that consider MINI a girls car (not that I agree with that personally).

Love the pic on this post! Now, just put some real truck tires on an ALL4 and lets hit some trails!

Oh, BTW, I am an above average football fanatic and a football coach for the last 17 years and I love MINI. JonPD, it is time for you to get a life and stop being a naysayer!

exactly why this woud be a good idea for MINI. People’s eyes need opening and the Super Bowl is probably the best place to do it just due to the number of viewers.

This is a great idea because I would imagine that the vast majority of people that watch the Superbowl aren’t even football fans, they’re just Americans. If they have a killer commercial then it will be at the top of the list people comment about Monday morning at the water cooler.

Great idea to open up their target audience, especially for people that have historically thought “MINI is too small for me”.

From Apple’s infamous “Big Brother” ad in 1984 to present, SuperBowl ads (televised or otherwise) have long been ground-zero for innovative advertising in N.America. And a LOT of people follow the SuperBowl ad buzz more than the game itself. In other words, this is probably one of the better places to “launch” the R60 to a broader N.American audience and – if they are clever in how they do it – build some major buzz to drive people to MINI’s coordinated online advertising.

@JonPD – he did wear it. Witnessed it myself at MTTS – even had my photo taken with him while he was wearing it. Your dripping sarcasm and skepticism is showing – do you need a bib?

I saw Jim wearing the MINI>Porsche shirt during MTTS however his bet was to wear a Porsche>MINI shirt if MINI lost.

I would agree a MINI commercial would have a better chance of success however as Gabe pointed out there was nothing in the article about a commercial.

To Gabe: Okay…I’ll bite. Pizza is the key word. Papa John’s is the official pizza for the NFL;yet,he’s seen with is retro,American,Muscle Car…which means Papa John’s won’t be tied into it.

However,Dominos’Pizza recent ads are about winning back customers through fresh ingredients and original marketing…and MINI is known for having great cars based on word of mouth marketing;thus, not needing to spend millions for t.v. ads…

Got it! Domino’s,during the SuperBowl Halftime Show, delivers free pizza to former customers in shiny new MINI Countrymans, across America;therefore, causing a HUGE word-of-mouth buzz throughout the Country, via twitter, facbook, youtube, etc….

Jim wore the “We did not beat MINI” shirt to the next major MINI event, as promised. IIRC, it was MINIs on Top. There’s a video out there somewhere of him talking about it with his son, but since you’re so obsessed with it, I’ll let you spend the time looking for it.

In down-under Australia and New Zealand, there is a current TV advert for Pizza Hut usuing a MINI as a delivery vehicle.
Maybe they are having a “Car Boot Party” on the field?

I bet they drive a bunch of the Countrymans on field during the halftime show. It just may bring the Mini into the mainstream. When I got my mini in 2008, there were hardly any other Mini’s in/around my town . Now, I notice there are many more Minis driving around (mostly women drivers). With this ad and the more muscular countryman, it may entice more men (young to old) drivers to investigate/buy as this is certainly the demographic that watches the SB.

Is this the spot they shot in las vegas a couple of months ago ?

Average football fanatic here … just picked up a 2011 S.

Pizza… hmm… I wonder…

Best of luck to MINI in 2011

@ JonPD, I’m a Jet Fan and MINI owner so I don’t see why you would think the average American Football fan would not be interested in a MINI?

This sounds like the perfect opportunity for MINI fans to vote on our favorite MINI ad. :-)

A SB spot could be a great move. I just hope MINI chooses one of their funny spots.

I rather like the infamous “banned”, Flirt, Lots of Room, Amusement Park Ride, Carbonated, or….

Not sure if any of you have looked across most every professional game, let alone Superbowl parking lot to see the number of subcompacts are a definite minority. I also know a large number of people that consider MINI a girls car (not that I agree with that personally).

I think the point of this ad is to change the common perceptions that you’re all bringing up.

Love the pic on this post! Now, just put some real truck tires on an ALL4 and lets hit some trails!

Keep in mind one thing in the article above. It doesn’t mention TV anywhere in it.

Pizza delivery by special-liveried R60’s in major cities during the SuperBowl? :)

@Gabe, mucho better! Maybe something like this (substitute the HT for the Countryman): http://www.toxel.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/miniads13.jpg

yikes! “he’s seen with is retro…”=”he’s seen with HIS retro…”

as long as it’s not jumping a shark.

So its a half time show, starring the countryman.

BOOTGATING!!!
